When it comes to understanding lesson plans, the teacher must first understand the diverse needs of their students such as if students need any type of accommodations or modifications because of an IEPs, 504 plan or ESL. AI could help the teacher by suggesting ideas such as accommodations that they could use in the classroom to help meet the needs of all the different students. AI could help the teacher to lesson plan more effectively which leads to a more progressive classroom because it help take in account the different needs of the students.

One thing I learned is that AI can be really helpful when planning lessons, almost like having a second set of eyes. It can help teachers come up with ideas, build activities, and save time, but it’s not meant to replace the teacher. You still need to adjust and shape what the AI gives you so it actually fits your students and your goals. AI can be very helpful but you know your students and their needs and may need to make any necessary adjustments or differentiation in the lesson. I'm not really a technology person but I am learning more how AI can be helpful to us in a lot of ways.

An important takeaway from this week's lesson about lesson planning that I found helpful is to create a lesson plan as if we are writing it for a substitute teacher. I think this is a great way to think of the plan because it requires us to be extremely prepared and include as much detail as possible. It also requires accountability because if the plan was actually given to a sub, that is all they would have to teach the lesson - so it is a reminder that the lesson plan needs to hold all potential information and resources.

This week I realized how critical it is to define the grade level when planning a lesson. Thinking carefully about the students’ developmental stage not only guides what content and activities I choose, but also how I scaffold learning and differentiate instruction. I learned how important it is to write out specific procedure instructions so that anyone who reads the lesson plan understands with full clarity what is happening in the classroom, what to ask, and how the lesson should look. Looking back at old lesson plans during my time as a student teacher, I realized I could have included more specific language or instructions for a hypothetical substitute if they had to take over the class. I'm glad to have learned this now so I can create more detailed lesson plans in the future.

There are many take-aways from this week’s lesson. As a veteran teacher, sometimes we can get stuck in our old ways and do things the way we were originally taught. The use of AI tools for my lessons was something very new to me. We can use it to enhance or come up with standard based ideas. Another concept that I learned about it is to write my plans for someone else to follow. When I write my plans, it is unusually with a concept that is in my head. I need to be better at explaining everything. This will also help when an administrator reads them for an evaluation.
