As a result of participating in the Common Sense Media Program, I feel that the staff of Surry County Public Schools has added an important layer to the already successful instruction. This program has made a significant and positive impact on teaching and learning as well as the culture within the schools. Adults and children do not always fully understand their role as digital citizens and how to protect themselves online and our participation in this program has created a greater awareness of the responsibilities that parents, staff, and students hold. It has also empowered these educational stakeholders to take control of the digital footprints that are created everyday. The necessary tools have been provided to promote great instruction and learning that is enhanced with innovation and delivered in a safe and conducive digital environment. I am thankful to be a part of the program and be an advocate for my school district for the necessary implementation of digital teaching and citizenship. -Airon Grim

After being introduced to Common Sense Media by the IT Department, I have found great resources that have fit in nicely with Health SOL's. There have been great activities from the Risky Behavior Online section that the students seemed to enjoy participating in. We have also tried the game Digital Compass. Having the students choose the story they wanted and discuss their decisions were a great learning success!
- Sandra Fitzgerald

After using the Common Sense Media Program I was glad to see how much of the information I already make students aware of in the Library. We enjoyed taking the assessments together and talking about why answers were correct or incorrect. I have not looked at the game yet, but after seeing comments will have to check it out as a possible station when using the materials.
-Laura Bell
