Negotiation plays an important role in global health policy. Certain Nigerian officials believed that the polio vaccine was just an attempt to push forward the Western agenda. In order to prove that wasn’t the case, researchers deployed a diplomatic negotiation and invited officials to see through demonstrations that the vaccine is actually effective. After accepting their invitation by researchers, the Nigerian government starts collaborating with researchers. They want to gather all the information related to the vaccines to make sure that they are truly effective. Because they discovered that it is effective, and went through their negotiation and collaboration phase, they developed a partnership with the researchers, which allowed them to distribute the vaccines to the communities, especially since they’re at risk.

The first stage of negotiation is identifying the issues at hand. The second stage of negotiation is engaging stakeholders and preparing the information. The third stage is establishing a framework for an agreement; this stage contains what the process of exchange is and details the negotiation and exchange. The final stage is to just commit to the negotiation. After everything is laid on the table, and is clear then a conclusion can be drawn from both parties.
