Death in this event represents fear and the importance of every decision. It shows how if they aren't careful in everything they do (make the fire, taking a list of names, watching the littluns) they could cause someone to be in danger or even die. When they weren't watching the mulberry-colored birthmark boy or building the fire safely, the boy wandered off and disappeared. Not being able to pill the pig is a sign of weakness for Jack. He's embarrassed himself in front of the most "important" person in their tribe (Ralph) and needs to prove himself. Killing the pig is a way for him to redeem himself.

This shows the death of a unknown figure on the island. This piece of text evidence shows that people are disappearing. No one knows how or why, but it clearly states that it's noticeable. This is the very beginning of when the boys on the island discover their freedom, but it's also showing how easily becoming crazy or savage really is. They started going savage less than a day after they reached the island. Piggy is a diamond in the rough , nobody necessarily listens to him but they should because he could have some really good ideas that could possibly save them and get them from off of the island . i have a strong feeling that by the end of the book jack will finally realize that after a while piggy is right and that he should give him a chance

Jack is very arrogant and full of himself. Him being a hunter makes him think he's very special and important. He takes a lot of pride in his hunting abilities and toughness. He needs to prove himself to Ralph considering Ralph is the chief. Jack needs to show everyone what he can do. Ralph stood, one hand holding back his hair, the other clenched. Simon was climbing out of the water. Piggy was rubbing his glasses on his shorts and squinting at the sea. Maurice had got both legs through one leg of his shorts. Of all the boys, only Ralph was still.
"I can't see no smoke," said Piggy incredulously. "I can't see no smoke, Ralph—where is it?"
Ralph said nothing. Now both his hands were clenched over his forehead so that the fair hair was kept out of his eyes. He was leaning forward and already the salt was whitening his body.
"Ralph—where's the ship?"
Simon stood by, looking from Ralph to the horizon. Maurice's trousers gave way with a sigh and he abandoned them as a wreck, rushed toward the forest, and then came back again.
The smoke was a tight little knot on the horizon and was uncoiling slowly. Beneath the smoke was a dot that might be a funnel. Ralph's face was pale as he spoke to himself.
"They'll see our smoke."

Seeing the ship instantly installs a sense of strong hope of rescue in the boys, even filling them with disbelief. Ralph now remembers the signal and is most likely ecstatic at this point, now firmly believing they will finally be rescued. However, as seen shortly after, that hope is lost as the fire had gone out due to being unattended by Jack and his hunters, who were hunting at the time.
