"Thank you for coming!" Grampa Celo would always tell us. "Did you eat?" Gramma Lourdes would ask. Grampa Blas was very quiet & Gramma Mary would talk away & scold my uncle for his antics. My father taught us many sports, debated issues of the day and guided us through the ups & downs of life. My younger sister & brother were beloved, smart, worked hard contributing to their communities and really missed by our family.

I don't know all of my family members so any of photos I can find of loved ones, I'll place them on my altar as a way to honor and remember them. That's my aunt Sherdina and that is my father's great grandfather (I believe). I'll leave water, valuables, and offerings for them as well.

Grandma Ruth, I miss you so much today more so than usual. This is very emotional for me and I feel a strong urge to pull away from it, but I think that's why I must feel into the feelings. In honor of my grandparents, and all the grandparents before them. In honor of their hardworking, amazingly strong personalities, and enormous Hearts that were carried down to us. Thank you for your sacred land and all the things you did for everyone in this family.

This is my altar, currently decorated for spring! It’s hard for me to get photos of ancestors, but there is a bracelet that belonged to my aunt who passed away. Sometimes I leave her desserts. I have some keys that I found in my grandma’s jewelry box. Every year I make my grandpa a Bloody Mary on his birthday.

This is my actual ancestor altar that lives in my closet upstairs. Tending this altar has been such a joy. I keep it fresh with flowers and herbs from my garden. I visit it everyday and greet my ancestors. I keep my dearest deck on my bible (one the many I was given over the years by my Grandma Myrtle and Mom, bc I'm a heathen, I guess ☺️) It is the first "place" I go in the morning and the last at night.

This is the altar I just made with a photo of my Paternal Nana and Grandad and my Grandad on my mum's side who have all passed over. I have some poems from my Great Grandad. The cloth was my Nana's. I'm still trying to get a photo of my Aunty, who I know is always around me. She always comes through in readings, so it'll be nice to connect with her more. I have a Kereu feather I found and some Rimu, Kawakawa, Rosemary, Rose, lavender, pukapuka and fern.
