First nations people believed that the sun healed and gave peace to all, they thought the cause of this was the warmth. Some indigenous people believed that someone carried a sun all day and hung it up at night or even some stories were about a bird that threw it up into space before there was ever light. The main focus of this is that they thought it was one of the most important things for humankind. Many indigenous people feel a relationship to the sun with how many good things it brings for the earth. The sun also represents life and sustains many ecosystems while also bringing positivity.

What are polar lights? Polar lights, also known as the northern lights or auroras, these happen when charged particles, such as electrons and protons collide with gases in Earth's upper atmosphere. This creates a bright green ripple in the sky. The polar lights aren't just pretty though, they symbolize one very important thing in indigenous culture. These stunning lights to indigenous people, can represent their ancestors. The lights are to be the spirits of the dead, coming back to communicate with the living. It's to show that there is more beyond this human form. That we are not alone, and beyond our human lives there is more waiting for us. They also have a special name for these lights. In cree it is ka-nimihitocik (literally meaning: they who are dancing) For most people in general seeing these spectacular lights are also a sign of good luck.

When travelers would come by they would use the song lines to tell them about the landscape. Each song line would mark or reveal a place where you can get your needs. The First Nations would make star maps to show the best way to travel between 2 different places that were very far apart. They would create star maps in the snow to help them remember. The elders would pass on the knowledge to the younger generations, teaching them.

So actually is the symbolism of light and darkness? Well there is lots to know about the symbolism of light and darkness, but the main thing someone would need to know about this topic is that it is a very important key aspect of their unique culture. For darkness it represents that something is dead or decaying, like animals, things, people, etc. Dark is also known as something that is to be sad, or something that is sorrowful. Light on the other hand is something that is living and thriving in different seasons, like rough times in winter, or bright and sunny times like in summer or spring. Light (like the sun) is considered to be a very special and sacred part of the Indigenous culture because the sun helps things like plants, and animals grow and survive. The sun is also believed that it represents live giving (like the sentence above) and healing powers that heals and warms the soul, spirit and the body.

what is the symbolism of Light and Darkness? and does it represent indigenous culture? The symbolism of light and darkness is a very interesting topic and there are many things to learn about. Indigenous peoples believe that light represents happiness, wealth, prosperity and overall meaning a good life. However darkness meaning sadness, death, chaos, sorrow, and a bad life. The seasons are a key aspect in representing light and darkness. Again light meaning summer time, happy, bright and sunny, and darkness meaning foggy, dark, cold like in the winter time. light is a very important and special part of the indigenous culture. The reason why it is so sacred and a very special thing to them is because light including the sun makes things grow, like plants and keeps things growing and helps animals live. Light also brightens up rooms, and dark places and brings warmth, the sun heals and is said to give warmth and warms the body.
