How to play: The first person calls out a food on the table and you go around the table calling out words that rhymes with it. When unable to think of a rhyming word, that person calls out a new food on the table.

The game provides the opportunity for children to practice their rhyming skills in a safe space with their family members. Children will need to listen to the words and identify the sounds within that word. After which, they need to find a new word that has the same identified sound. This relates to the listening and phonological awareness under the the National Literacy Learning Progression (ACARA, 2020).

Phonological awareness is a foundation for language acquisition (Mullen, 2017). This means that children need to understand that words are made up of different sounds and phonemes.

How to play: The first player writes a word and passes it on to the next play who will draw their impression of the word. Players will alternate writing and drawing their impression of the text from the previous player.

This game is great for families who loves a great laugh. It encourages children to be as detailed in their drawings and explanations to relay the most accurate information. Through this game, children use decoding skills to understand the given text (written/drawn). Next, they learn to encoding the same information in a different form of text(drawn/written). At the same time, it reinforces handwriting skills through the writing or drawing process. This relates to the handwriting, spelling, creating texts and understanding texts elements under the National Literacy Learning Progression (ACARA, 2020).

According to Hamer and Lely (2019), literacy learning should be done in a creative manner so that learners do not get bored. When learning is presented in the form of play, it increases their interest and motivation to learn a particular skill (Hamer and Lely,2019). Besides developing the children's literacy skills, it develops their creative thinking as well. This game is able to integrate the use of various literacy skills and combine them into a fun game for children to practice and hone their skills in creating different forms of texts.
