It helped unify the colonies so that they all fought together instead of trying to make separate peace agreements with Britain.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>When: July 5th, 1775</div><div>What: The Olive Branch Petition was the final effort of the Second Continental Congress to persuade King George III of England to respond to the concerns of the American Colonists and to settle their differences friendly.</div><div>Impact: The Petition emphasized their loyalty to the British crown and emphasized their rights as British citizens. It's rejection by King George and Parliament strengthened the influence and position of the men like John Adams and Samuel Adams who favored independence.</div>]]></description>
