What: A meeting with delegates from the 13 colonies that came together to support the revolutionary war.

Impact: It elected George Washington as Commander-in-Chief and established a Continental army 

What: The first major battle of the American Revolution, fought in Charlestown during the Siege of Boston.

Impact: The British defeated the Americans but it gave the Americans a needed confidence boost during the Siege of Boston because of the significant casualties they caused the British.

What: The Landing at Kip's Bay, a British amphibious landing during the New York Campaign in the American Revolutionary War 

Impact:  It forced the Continental Army to withdraw to Harlem Heights, ceding control of New York City on the lower half of the island.

What: The first battle that the Americans battled and defeated the British, a turning point.

Impact: It furthered the hope for independence, lifted patriot morale, and helped to secure the foreign support needed to win the war.

What: The Americans fought the unprepared Hessians and won victory at Trenton, New Jersey.

Impact: It reasserted American control of much of New Jersey and greatly improved the morale and unity of the colonial  militias and army.

What: Entrapped a major British army on a peninsula at Yorktown, Virginia, and forced its surrender.
Impact:  The British surrender forecast the end of British rule in the colonies and the birth of a new nation

What:  The Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence a proclamation that the United States is an independent country from Great Britain.
Impact: The main purpose of America's Declaration of Independence was to explain to foreign nations why the colonies had chosen to separate themselves from Great Britain. It helped unify the colonies so that they all fought together instead of trying to make separate peace agreements with Britain.

What: The Olive Branch Petition was the final effort of the Second Continental Congress to persuade King George III of England to respond to the concerns of the American Colonists and to settle their differences friendly.

Impact: The Petition emphasized their loyalty to the British crown and emphasized their rights as British citizens. It's rejection by King George and Parliament strengthened the influence and position of the men like John Adams and Samuel Adams who favored independence.

What: The Philadelphia campaign was a British effort in the American Revolutionary War to gain control of Philadelphia, which was then the seat of the Second Continental Congress.
Impact: It convinced France that the Americans were worthy allies and the french entered the war on the side of the Americans. This lead to the British abandoned Philadelphia.

What: The Treaty of Paris was signed by U.S. and British Representatives, ending the War of the American Revolution
Impact: This was the end of the war, the Americans had finally achieved their independence.

What: Valley Forge was a naturally defensible plateau where they could train and recoup from the year's battles while winter weather, impassable roads, and scant supplies stopped the fighting

Impact: This allowed them to be in good fighting condition and good heath.
