Using your sensory word chart, fully describe what your perfect moment. Use at least 3 different words.
If it is hanging at the beach, what is your set up or perfect time?
Enjoy the description! How does the sun feel on your face as you laugh it up with your friends? How does the water feel and how does the sand feel against and between on your toes? Are you sharing some chips and some flavored water? What does it smell like? I know I always love the smell of Coppertone wafting across the sand and that overall tangy smell of the salt water as it tingles my nose. How does it feel to share with your friends again?

The sand is grainy and not too hot on my feet as I stand to get ready to jump into the frothy, enticing waves. Coppertone is the scent of summer to me and I liberally apply my own to my pinkening skin as the sun is as warm as the best summer day and kisses my skin with its delicious warmth. My family is all around, some riding the waves, others blue and pink stained faces show the joy of a recently completed shave ice.

The musty, light smell of hay surrounds the festival grounds as heavy chain mail is placed upon my stature. Nordic and Celtic folk music hypes the boisterous crowds around me; some dancing traditionally, others sporadically. A community of strangers I've plunged into, young and old, all enjoying the wonders of axe-tossing or rich markets with or without family. The warmth of the smoking forge made sweating a simple task, under lukewarm armour, as the blacksmith showed me off to onlookers.

It takes place during a warm summer morning, some time in the ripe month of August. There’s a sea of people dispersed everywhere. As I walk slowly, with my hands gripped tightly on to my backpack, I glance at everyone around me. There’s people, literally, everywhere. I spot a few familiar faces, some flaunting their new shoes, some frantically gesticulating while they talk about their summer. I awkwardly make eye contact with people I know and wave at them. The towering B building with its intimidating flights of stairs and its punctured beige walls feels like home. It will be, for the rest of this year. There’s something about this scene that makes it tranquil, despite the endless buzzing and commotion around me. It’s the comfort and relief of being able to see familiar faces that welcomes me. It’s the assurance of being able to hug people who are close to me. It’s the nostalgic feeling of being able to sit in a chilly classroom and being able to listen to the teacher lecture. It’s the satisfaction of finally being able to open physical books and being able to smell the musky scent of paper. There is peace in going back to an old normality, but it is only truly appreciated through retrospection.

A warm breeze dances in through my cracked bedroom window. I can still feel the heat of the summer sun on my cheeks and taste the salt of the cold ocean on my lips. Hours before this, my friends and I were invincible. We spent the day in the water; endlessly swimming out towards the deep blue horizon and back towards the coarse sand. Now, back in my bedroom, our bodies feel like lead, managing not much more than a lazy smile. My twin sized bed protests with a series of creaks while we all adjust our position, attempting to find a decent vantage point of my laptop playing That 70s Show. We spend the rest of the night playing cards and eating half melted ice cream cones.

The warmth of the sun greets my bedroom as I wake up to what I assume is another dreadful day of quarantine. Another brooding grey day where I having nothing but myself and my acidic thoughts. All of which becomes a mere fuzzy memory the next day. Upon getting up I look out my window and to my surprise, the outside was blooming with activity. The cars rip through the streets like they used to months ago, people are outside, children are playing. The positive energy is irresistible and I take a deep breath and proceed to scream with jollity upon realizing the time period of boredom and monotony was coming to an end. I jump out of bed and make breakfast, the delicious warmth of the food mixes well with the warm feeling of sun on my skin. The noisy neighbors outside make me giddy that the world is now active. To go outside feels tempting, and as it's now safe, I leave my house for a day of relief and reflection of the months I and so many others went through, under the sun I have yet to fully bathe myself under for months. What a thunderous triumph.

Watch as the moonlight shimmers in The sea. I'm surrounded by darkness, yet so captivated by light. My friends and I stood up and walked towards the freezing waves. All of us full of energy jumped in and let our bodies get used to the water while we splash each other like we were kids again.

We all sit around the crackling campfire, singing our favorite songs while gazing at the stars with the soft sand between our feet and the harsh wood burning fills my lungs. The ocean is an omniscient blue with a faint glow among the waves as dolphins come out to play in the blissfully calm water, the moonlight shines onto the vast open ocean leaving only wanders to be explored.

As I lay there on my towel above the warmth of the sand, the sun is still high in the sky, looking down upon everyone as she warms us. I can feel her rays on my back, slowly and deviously burning my skin into the perfect color. I slowly drift off into the kind of sleep where you are still aware of what is happening, but my eyes are closed and my body is relaxed. I can still hear the ocean waves crash. I can still hear my sunny days playlist playing. I can still hear my friends laughter. The laughter is what makes me smile. Suddenly it begins to become too hot. I get up from my half awake sleep and my friends and I grab our boards. I pick up my long board which I personally painted and we make our way down to the shore. The waves gently crashing against our bodies as we hop onto the top of our boards. We paddle and paddle out into what seems like a never ending heaven.

On a calm summer’s day, the breeze caresses my skin. The dying sun, ever so warm, starts slowly sinking below the clear and perfectly deep blue ocean. I hear the brilliant ballads of classic Egyptian tunes fade away. The ship gently turns, dragging the soft, cool water onto its sides. I arise and notice the heavenly creations on this Earth. In absolute awe, I wonder how such divinities last so delicately despite the chaos it endures. Nightfall dawns and the moon, though sparkling as always, seemed lovelier in the darkness that hung above the temple of Horus, the god of the sky that is ruled by the great light and the lesser light. I conclude that as time progresses the handiwork of my ancestors becomes more valuable. Rich histories experience change and yet their beauty thrives throughout the ages.

The air was crisp and circulating through my body. Nothing else mattered. As the waves of the ocean crashed into each other all my worries had dispersed into a distant memory. As the sun started to set, the sky turned to fire. The colors stretched the sky and made time standstill. The night was fighting its way through as stars started to surface. The fire that we circled around would soon become the only hue that would be present. Hair wet and sweatshirts on we gathered around and it truly feels like home. The sound of laughter was consuming. Everything was sublime. As the night died down the fears, anxiety, and worry whooshed away with it. Happiness is the only word that could characterize. Pure and utter joy.

*exhale*

I talk without any disturbance or anyone interrupting the moment. I see the faces of my friends with the most happy smiles I have ever seen in my life. I look at the water and the most perfect late afternoon sun reflected on it. I only see people in the far distance. I feel the sand on my feet and feel relaxed I see hear the cars in the distance passing quickly near the beach. I feel the cool beach breeze hit my face as I sit on the warm sand. The sun then starts to set slowly and I see the sun start to fade in the remote distance and smile as the water splashes on the ocean shore nearby. I see the beautiful ocean and look at the distance of those surfers who laugh and smiled all day long like if they will never get tired of it and will be that way forever. As The water and sky turn darker I can only feel happiness in the carefree moment.

In this room full of commotion, I listen to the sound of children giggling, gurgling and screaming, adults groaning, snoring and muttering.
A speaker tells me it's time to line up. As I walk through the tunnel, I notice my hands feeling clammy; acrophobia. Even this can't dull my excitement. Once I felt the water it was as cold as Antartica. The water felt like dry ice as it melted away the vivid sunscreen on my body.

I'm lying on my back with my eyes closed. The sun is brilliant and blinding; searing a warm afterimage onto the black of my eyelids. The laughter of my friends all around me echo in the background. Finally I open my eyes and sit up. We're at our favorite spot, a lush green clearing by the school surrounded by foliage thick enough to give us shade and privacy. It's beautiful and stunning.
Two friends inevitably devolve into an argument about politics, as they always did. One makes an obscene remark and we all burst into laughter. Another friend sighs and flops onto his back, exhausted by their incessant bickering.
I smile.
God, I've missed these insufferable bastards.

As I enter the plane, I am filled with excitement as my cousin and I walk to find our seats. The plane takes off and I begin to feel anxious as we start to plan what we are going to do throughout our trip when we get there. When I look through the window I see the peaceful aqua blue ocean and the forest green trees around all the islands. Eventually we land on the beautiful big Island of Hawaii. We get driven to our gorgeous rental and I follow my cousin as she immediately rushes to the back side of the house to open the huge glass doors that open up to the water front view of the beach. As we walk to the water I hear the soothing sounds of the waves crashing and the birds chirping as they fly across the clear ocean water. As it got late, I went up to my room to fall asleep to the tranquil ocean sounds. Knowing the following days would be full of memories and adventures.

-Alyssa Apodaca

I can smell the air, filled with sweetness from the sugary funnel cake being freshly made. The sound of people rumbling by on the roller coasters filled me with excitement. I am at Knott's Berry Farm and cannot wait to enjoy all of the greasy, delicious foods and go on all of the rides. I wait patiently in the lengthy line but eager to finally get on the ride Supreme Scream. My feet are dangling as we rise to the top. My heart races, waiting for the drop. For a split second I feel the weightlessness as we begin to fall. My family and I enjoyed the rest of our day together and ended the night eating the crispy and doughy funnel cake.
- Amber Rosales

Along with a few of my cousins I grab a crimson rope. The other end of it was hooked on a bulky rock that was on the other side of the rushing river. We all knew that the only thing standing in between us and a mysterious cave was this freezing waterway. I tighten my hands around this thick rope and follow my cousins into the canal. As soon as my feet touch the frosty water they become numb. I push my way through the tides and after a few feet I feel my legs lift off the ground. I tighten my hands around my lifeline and pray the tides don't take me. Only a few feet left to go and some of my cousins reached the cave already. They noticed the concerned look on my face and begin to pull me and a few others in by the rope. My feet finally touch the rocky ground of the cave and I let out a sigh of relief.
Marleny Medina
