Line four, “Acting stupid, what’s happening.”, shows that she’s having fun with her song and words, and that she doesn’t care how it comes off to others as long as it feels genuine to her. I feel like being comfortable and free in her lyrics makes the messages more real and involved.

In this song MTS uses words like classy, bougie, and ratchet to express her life and style. Admitting that she’s a ratchet shows she knows she isn’t perfect, and when she says she’s classy and bougie she gives herself self appreciation and doesn’t care what other people think about her.

I like the contrast that the 3 words provide each other. Before, I thought that these words were randomly picked and ordered without much meaning, but I now see that “classic” has a good, clean-cut connotation. Bougie can be taken either way (good or bad) and ratchet clearly has a negative connotation. This contrast provides a change of mood for the listeners. This mood is supposed to convey the idea of being a person who is versatile enough to be described with two words that have completely different meanings.

In the line “B—, I’m a savage,” MTS explicitly uses vulgar language in order to add emphasis to what she is saying. Using vulgar language like B— in the beginning of the lyric, MTS is able to strengthen her claim of being a savage by grabbing the listener’s attention, and then saying that she is savage. By putting a lot of emphasis on the word savage, MTS is also able to show the audience that this is one of her biggest characteristics.

Line 3, Sassy, Moody, Nasty

MTS is using these words in this line to talk about her life style. I think she uses these words to say how people are labeling her as negative things and she is being stereotyped as sassy, moody, and nasty. Also, I think MTS knows she isn’t perfect and can be the things she says in lines 2-3, but she also doesn’t care what other people think of her.

While classy (graceful) and bougie (fancy or rich) can typically go hand-in-hand, ratchet (misbehaved) would almost be an antonym for these words. Using these words with opposite meanings to describe herself, MTS is normalizing being able to have many extreme qualities, with good or bad connotations, at once.

The song ”Savage” by Megan The Stallion has brought waves of self love and appreciation on the app TikTok. Her choice of words in lines one through three (“savage, classy, bougie, ratchet, sassy, moody, and nasty”) were used to describe herself and show others that she has multiple sides to her.

Choosing words like bougie, sassy, nasty, etc. can be used in positive and negative ways. MTS “hyped” up these words to direct people to interpret them in a positive way.
