While at the monument I noticed the other visitors were very engaged in the art, artifacts, and readings. It was also very crowded so people were conversing with each other about the things they were seeing and reading about. There were moments where people were very quiet and taken back and times where people’s eyes lit up at what they were seeing.

While visiting the monument I was taken back and immediately taken in by the amount of information and artifacts that were in one place from, pieces of wood from the first slave ship to Michael Jackson’s Grammy Award. Even though I was so excited to learn about my history I was sad to see the hardships and struggles blacks had to go through for hundreds of years. The only questions I had was, when am I going to come back and experience this again and why did it take so long for a beautiful museum like this to be built in our nation’s capital? I really liked this monument because it is for everyone, not just blacks but for people of all cultures and backgrounds to learn about the nation’s history.
