Here are some of the Adab in Seeking Knowledge:

📚Be sincere in seeking knowledge

مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ عِلْمًا مِمَّا يُبْتَغَى بِهِ وَجْهُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يَتَعَلَّمُهُ إِلَّا لِيُصِيبَ بِهِ عَرَضًا مِنْ الدُّنْيَا لَمْ يَجِدْ عَرْفَ الْجَنَّةِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

It is mentioned in a hadeeth that “Whoever seeks knowledge that should be sought for the sake of Allah Almighty, but only to gain some worldly benefit, he will never know the fragrance Paradise on the Day of Resurrection.” (Sunan Abi Dawud, Sahih)

📚To respect and honour those who share their knowledge

By respecting and honouring those who share their knowledge with us, we are able to get the blessings of the knowledge as well as the Redha of our teachers

📚 Have patience in seeking knowlege

Remember that trials are there to make us be a stronger person and Allah Ta’ala only tests His servants with something that is within their capabality as it is mentioned in the Quran Kareem:

لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا

“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.”

Keep in mind to always trust the process!

📚Be humble

It is said that we should be like a paddy 🌾 The more grain it has, the lower it bends. In the same way, as we gain more knowledge, we should stay humble 🫶🏻

[AL QURAN AS A GUIDANCE]

We then proceed with reading Surah Waqiah

together and thereafter Surah Al Isra’ (verse 9 - verse 21) along with its translation.

It is mentioned the Quran Kareem:

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ يَهْدِى لِلَّتِى هِىَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًۭا كَبِيرًۭا

“Surely, this Quran guides to something that is most straightforward, and gives glad tidings to the believers who do good deeds that ready for them there is a great reward.”

(Al Isra’: verse 9)

And it is mentioned in another verse:

وَمَنْ أَرَادَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌۭ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُم مَّشْكُورًۭا

“But whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it accordingly, and is a true believer, it is they whose striving will be appreciated.” (Al Isra’: verse 19)

This explains that the reward of those who desire this world and those who desire the Hereafter differ. Allah Ta’ala tells us that not everyone who seeks worldly luxuries gets what they want.
It is attained only by those whom Allah Ta’ala wills to have it. Meanwhile, if we strive and make efforts for Akhirah then our efforts will definitely be appreciated and rewarded 🌷

All in all, we have learnt that

Al Quran was revealed as guidance to all mankind. The Prophet S.A.W left us with 2 things which are the Quran Kareem and Sunnah. The Quran is our guidebook where everything that we do should be according to the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet S.A.W. The Quran not only includes the stories of the prophets and methods for performing Salah but also offers comfort, glad tidings, and inspiration to help us become better Muslims 💫

Suggestion for improvement: It would be great if we could include in more fun and beneficial activities or games that requires everyone’s participation so that everyone will enjoy the usrah better!

Last friday, we discussed about a lengthy and very beautiful hadeeth that is called Hadeeth Jibrail. It mentions about the 5 pillars of Islam, 6 pillars of Iman as well as the Adab of Seeking Knowledge.

The Hadeeth Jibrail is a great hadeeth in which the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W explained Iman, Islam, Ihsan, Signs of the Hour and it signs.

Firstly, the hadeeth mentions:

إذْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ شَدِيدُ بَيَاضِ الثِّيَابِ، شَدِيدُ سَوَادِ الشَّعْرِ

“Suddenly there appeared before us a man dressed in extremely white clothes and with very black hair.“

✨This indicates to us that for a seeker of knowledge, we should dress nicely and in a presentable manner when meeting the Ulama’ and Fudhala’ just as Jibrail A.S came in a form of a human dressed in extremely white clothing and black hair.

The hadeeth then continues:

فَأَسْنَدَ رُكْبَتَيْهِ إلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، وَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى فَخِذَيْهِ

“He sat down close by the Prophet (peace be upon him), rested his knee against his thighs.”

✨This shows to us that when we are seeking knowledge, we should be close to the Ulama’ and Fudhala’ so that the knowledge easily enters our heart. The knowledge is received from their hearts to our hearts and it is very encouraged for us to be in the gathering of the pious people, Ulama’ and Fudhala’.

The next part of the hadeeth mentions about the Rukun Islam and Rukun Iman:

وَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الْإِسْلَام

فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه و سلم الْإِسْلَامُ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَتُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةَ، وَتُؤْتِيَ الزَّكَاةَ، وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ، وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ إنْ اسْتَطَعْت إلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا

“And he said, "O Muhammad! Inform me about Islam."

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Islam is that you should testify that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, that you should perform salah, pay the Zakah, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House, if you are able to do so."

📖 There are 5 pillars of Islam which are:

• Shahadah

• Solah

• Zakat

• Fasting

• Perform Hajj

Some of the Importance of the Pillars of Islam:

❄️To strengthen the bond between us and Allah

❄️To strengthen the bond between us and others

❄️To keep our souks away from major sins

❄️To make us be the real servants of Allah

📖The 6 pillars of Iman are:

• Believe in Allah

• Believe in His angels

• Believe in His books

• Believe in His prophets

• Believe in the last day

• Believe in Qada’ and Qadar

The hadeeth also tells us the meaning of Ihsan:

قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الْإِحْسَانِ

قَالَ: أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّك تَرَاهُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاك

“Then he (the man) said, "Inform me about Ihsan." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, "It is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet (know that) He sees you."

📖We should make ibadah in such a way that it is as though we can see Allah and if we cant see Him then know that Allah sees us. This manner will help us make ibadah to Allah in the best way.

Lastly, this hadeeth mentions about the Final Hour and its signs:

قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ السَّاعَةِ. قَالَ: مَا الْمَسْئُولُ عَنْهَا بِأَعْلَمَ مِنْ السَّائِلِ

قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ أَمَارَاتِهَا؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَلِدَ الْأَمَةُ رَبَّتَهَا، وَأَنْ تَرَى الْحُفَاةَ الْعُرَاةَ الْعَالَةَ رِعَاءَ الشَّاءِ يَتَطَاوَلُونَ فِي الْبُنْيَانِ

“He said, "Inform me about the Hour." He (the Messenger of Allah) said, "About that, the one questioned knows no more than the questioner." So he said, "Well, inform me about the signs thereof." He said, "They are that the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, that you will see the barefooted, naked, destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings."

📖There are many opinions pertaining to the slave girl that will give birth to her mistress, however majority of the Ulama’ says that it means the spreading of Islam.

📖One of the signs is that the arab bedouins, the Faqeer and the needy ones will start to compete with one another in raising tall building whilst they are not able to do so. Rasulullah S.A.W specifically mentioned the herdsmen if sheep is because they are the weakest deser dwellers which means that they are weak and far from being able to raise tall buildings.

🌷Jibrail A.S came as a questioner to teach others, not to learn for himself. He was already knowledgable of the questions that he asked and thats why he would say “You have spoken the truth” after the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W answers the questions. To conclude, from the hadeeth we have learnt the Adab of Seeking Knowledge which are:

🌿To always refer back to the knowledgeable scholars in the matters of Deen.

🌿To not be afraid nor shy nor hesitate in asking questions.

🌿To dress decently when meeting the Ulama’ and Fudala’.

🌿To not be afraid of saying “I dont know”.

Suggestion for improvement: Everything was good and fun last week Alhamdulillah. Maybe we can continue on having more fun activities such as quizzes or games or slideshows ✨

For this week’s usrah, we discussed the first 3 pillars of Islam which are to believe in Allah, to believe in the Angels and to believe in the Kutub.

We discussed that the first pillar of Iman which is to believe in Allah is divided into 3 parts which are:

💫Rububiyyah

💫Uluhiyyah

💫Asma’u Sifat

We as muslims should believe that Allah is the one who created everything and that Allah Ta’ala alone is the only Being that deserves to be worshipped.

The second pillar of Iman is to believe in the Angels. Allah Ta’ala created the Angels so that we live in a systematic life. Each angel has their own duty and the angels have 2 shifts which are during Fajr time and Asar time.

The third pillar of Iman is to believe in the Kutub. There are 4 kitab which are Zabur, Taurat, Injil and Al Quran. Quran is the biggest mu’jizat of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) where it is protected until today. There are no alterations nor changes in the Quran. The Quran that we read now is the same Quran in the previous times. No one can ever change the Quran nor bring something similar to it. That is the Quran Kareem that we read everyday 💗

Suggestion for improvement: I’d suggest that maybe we could have more quizzes or activities in the future to increase interactions with one another 🫶🏻

Continuing onto the remaining 3 pillars of Imaan, the 4th pillar of Imaan is to believe in the Rasool. The prophets bring tauheed which is to believe in the oneness of Allah Ta’ala. Each prophet brought the same message to their ummah which was to call the people towards Islam and to believe in Allah. Some of the duties of the prophets are:

🕋 To guide the people towards the straight path

🕋 To inform the people why we should worship Allah Ta’la

🕋 To inform the people about the unseen

The prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) has many specialities as well as a lot of beautiful qualities and akhlaq 💗 Some of which i would like to share it with the readers ✨

🌅 Rasulullah (S.A.W) is given shafaat where he could intercede for people in the akhirah.

🌅 Rasulullah (S.A.W) was sent for both mankind and jin whereas the other prophets were only sent to mankind.

🪽Rasulullah (S.A.W) is always grateful with what he was given. He never complains, he makes do with what he has. In fact, with very little amount of food and wealth that he had, he still is a very generous person and is always fulfilling the needs of others. We should always remind ourselves to look at those who are lower than us, in this way, it will help us to a more grateful person.

🪽 Rasulullah (S.A.W) has a very high amount of tolerance. He would always tolerate others and look onto the needs of others over himself. Just likehow he would tolerate the bedouin who urinated in the masjid, he didnt get angry at him nor scold him. What the prophet did was, he let the bedouin to finish his business and then he reprimanded the bedouin nicely.

🪽 Rasulullah (S.A.W) is always asking for forgiveness from despite of him being free of sins. It is mentioned in a hadeeth that he seeks forgiveness more than 70 times each day.

If the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) someone who is free of sins, who is the most beloved to Allah, who will definitely enter Jannah, still asks for forgiveness from Allah more than 70 times a day, then we who commit so many sins each day should be asking forgiveness from Allah Ta’ala more than the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

*Theres a beautiful book that I would like to recommend which is “Shamail-E-Tirmizi”. This book talks about the beautiful characteristics of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and it is written by Imam Tirmizi. You will definitely see how beautiful are his characteristics and you would surely fall in love with Rasulullah (S.A.W) and you would wish to meet him in person or to at least dream of him💖

The 5th Pillar of Imaan is to believe in the Last Day. It is mentioned in a hadeeth that whoever doesnt believe in the Last Day is a kafir.

The 6th Pillar of Imaan is to believe in Qada’ and Qadar. Everything is already written in the Lauhi Mahfooz. Allah Ta’ala knows everything that will happen. We should believe in what has been written for us, it will help us attain the contentment of the heart.

Eschatology refers to the Day of Akhirat and the Day of Resurrection 💥

Ihsan means goodness and it is mentioned 211 times in the quran. In order for a person to be a Muhsin, they have to attain Ihsan.

✨Characteristics of A Muhsin✨

• Gives benefits to others

• Gives benefits in the best possible way

• Gives goodness to others only for the sake of Allah and not hoping for anything else

Just like the story of Prophet Ibrahim, he reprimanded his father to have faith in Allah, he went all out in destroying the idols and he sacrificed his son solely for the pleasure of Allah. Another story is the story of Prophet Yusuf where he rejected Zulaikha when he was seduced by her, he kept provisions for his people and he did all that only for the sake of Allah. These stories show that Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Yusuf have the characteristics of Muhsin in them ✨

To conclude, we should do a lot of good deeds with sincerity to attain the pleasure of Allah on the Day of Resurrection and prepare ourselves for the life after death 🌷

The word “adaba” means to refine, to educate, to discipline. Adab and Akhlaq relate to one another 🌿

Ettiquetes with parents

• Parental rights towards children

• Children’s responsibility towards parents

Just as how we can see from the story of the Prophet Ibrahim with his father who worshipped the idols.

Ettiquetes with neighbours

• Use beautiful and polite language

• To be humble

• Be kind even when others throw stones to us

Ettiquetes with friends

• Share with one another and to not be stingy

• To not backbite or gossip about others

• To always have a cheerful smile :)

• Always forgive one another

InshaAllah we make dua that Allah grants us the taufeeq to make amaal of what we have learnt and hope this little sharing can benefit everyone 💗

SOLAH

Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quran:

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

“And I did not create the jin and the human except so that they may worship Me”.

This ayat highlights about the purpose of us being created in this world which is to worship Allah. Solah instills awareness of Allah, restrains from immoral behaviour and encourages obedience.

Attributes of solah:

1. Ikhlas (sincerity for Allah)

2. Fear of Allah

3. Remembrance of Allah

FASTING

Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quran:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

“O you who believed, fasting has been decreed upon you as it was decreed upon those before you perhaps you may become righteous”.

Fasting develops taqwa, empathy and discipline. It helps believer draw closer to Allah. Allah Ta’ala Himself will reward those who are fasting. Fasting will helps us weaken shaytan’s influence and make us aware that Allah Ta’la is constantly observing us. It is mentioned in a hadeeth that the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of the musk. (Sahih Bukhari)

ZAKAH

• Zakah purifies wealth, fosters generosity and reduce greed.

• Zakah cleanses sins and bad traits.

• We are helping the needy by giving out zakah.

HAJJ

Hajj disciplines believers to follow Allah’s commandments and abstain from prohibited acts.

Etiquettes of Hajj:

1. Avoid indecent acts, disobedience and any dispute

2. Stay devoted o worship and good deeds

All in all, Ibadah fosters moral discipline, taqwa and spiritual purification. By understanding and performing Ibadah sincerely, muslims can gain Allah’s pleasure. Lastly, a sweet reminder for all of us that no matter who we are, what we do, how many sins we commit in our life, remember to never leave out the 5 daily solahs as the prophet Muhammad has told us that Solah prevents from immoral behaviour and evil 🌷

Suggestion to improve: Alhamdulillah i enjoyed the usrah as we had interactions with one another.

Preparing Solah with Khushu’:

1. Taharah of the body

   • There should be no najasah or impurity on the body

2. Taharah of the clothing

   • To make sure that our clothes or any garments that we will wear during our solah is clean

3. Taharah of the place which prayer is offered

   • Ensure that the place of performing solah is clean from any dirt

🍁The first thing that will be questioned on the Day of Qiyamah is solah just likehow it is mentioned in a hadeeth:

إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا يُحَاسَبُ بِهِ الْعَبْدُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ صَلَاتُهُ

“Surely the first thing that a servant will be reckoned with on the Day of Qiyamah from his actions is solah”.

If they are in order, he will have prospered and succeeded. If they are lacking, he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers, then the Almighty Lord will say: See if My servant has any voluntary prayers that can complete what is insufficient in his obligatory prayers. The rest of his deeds will be judged the same way.

🍁Meaning of khushu’: Literally it means calmness, humility, fear and humbleness. Whilst terminologically, khushu’ refers to a state of the heart characterized by humility, submission and attentiveness to Allah during acts of worship, particularly in solah.

Suggestion to improve: Alhamdulillah everything was good, we also had quizzes at the end of the usrah 🫶🏻

Salah is the cornerstone of a Muslim's daily life, a connection with Allah whilst Khushu' is a state of humility and focus in prayer, essential for spiritual success.

It is said that a prayer without khushu' is valid. However, praying without khushu' decreases the rewards of the prayer performed.

When we perform our solah with khushu', we will attain 5 virtues:

• Al-Taah: Total obedience to Allah's commands

• Al-Jihad: Striving for Allah's cause , spritually and morally.

• Muhasabah: Self accountability and self contemplation

• Tawaddu': Humility as a servant of Allah

• Iffah: Avoidance from sinful behaviours and desires

To conclude, solah with khushu' shapes a believer's character and strengthens the bond.

Suggestion to improve: -

Allah Ta'ala has mentioned in Surah Baqarah, verse 183 that fasting has been made incumbent on us just like how it has been made incumbent on the previous people. Therefore it is compulsory for us to fast in the month of Ramadhan.

Hikmah of Fasting:

1) Fasting helps us control our desires.

2) Fasting also teaches a person to abstain from commiting sins like backbiting, indecent speech and lying.

Virtues of Fasting:

1) Patience

Fasting teaches us to be patience in holding back our desires from doing things that we are not supposed to do. There are 3 types of Sabr which are having patience in obeying the commandments of Allah, having patience in staying away from what Allah prohibits and having patience in bearing the pain and enjoying the happiness in fasting.

2) Honour

In the teachings of Islam, fasting is considered as a very honourable act and blessed by Allah. It doesn't only disciplines us but also makes us closer to our Creator.

It is mentioned in a hadeeth that every action of the children of Adam will be multiplied its rewards from 10 upto 700 folds except fasting, fasting is for Me and I will give its rewards (Allah). (Sunan Ibn Majjah - Sahih).

3) Rahmah

Fasting assists us in gaining mercy from Allah Ta'ala, pondering over the bounties that Allah has showered on us, fosters empathy and compassion, forgiving others and cultivates grace in personality.

All in all, fasting helps us to ask for mercy from Allah Ta’ala and to ponder over His countless bounties. By means of fasting, a person will gain closeness to Allah.
