Malala was named after a famous Afghani poet and warrior named Malalai of Maiwand who spoke out and was killed. Like most girls her age, she wanted to become a doctor or teacher but unlike most children she also wanted to become a politician to fix the Pakistan government and protect the people of Mingora. Then the Taliban came.
They shut down the schools, sent bombers their way,
and the once peaceful and happy Swat Valley seemed as distant as a dream that might never come true
Malala remained strong, she stood out.
Then the dreaded day came, the day she was expecting for a long time,
the day the Taliban tried to silence her.
The day Malala Yousafzai was shot.
But she was given a second life.
A life devoted to getting education for all children.
