I do like working in photoshop i think its nice to use when wanting to combine images into one picture like i did. I like what i did with the bushes here and used alot of layers to help the picture i made have more depth especially with the shadows i added. I also like the pink tint that i experimented with.

I also added drop shadow to help the extra layers i added to blend in and it made it look cooler. i made sure to change the angle where the shadow is facing to where the sun is not shining in the background which makes it look better.

I used another technique where you select two images and make one a silhouette and the other can be put into the silhouette to create a nice effect. For these i chose a simple image of my cat and a nice scenery image to put in.

I really like these types of images as i think the vibe it gives off it very mysterious and cool especially with the images i used. This is a small drawing i did with illustrator just using the pen tool. It was nice to practice with the pen tool on illustrator as I think I'm going to use a lot of this throughout my project. I found it really hard to draw with a mouse especially when it came to doing the facial features as i couldn't get an accurate shape and could not control the mouse as good as I can control a pen or pencil so it was challenging.

with this affect you can change as many different colours in the picture as you want so i chose to change the number to around 120 and i did some experimenting with different colour combinations.

for his image trace effect i used an option that blocks the different colours making it look more graphical. i used this effect on a drawing i had done on paper which i put onto illustrator to experiment with it.

i used layers to colour underneath my drawing as the effect i used removed all white from the image so anything could go underneath so i coloured the background red.

using the pen tool i started drawing a jellyfish with an inspiration photo. i used the opacity slider to change the pens opacity which let me blend in the colours and the shadows together. I also used one of the pen tool shapes which i though looked like the jellyfish's antenna things so i used that in the middle and changed it to different blues and purples.

after i finish my jellyfish drawing i created a background layer to make a background just by using shades of blue which also let me crate a light source for my picture.

I really liked using illustrator and I think my illustration came out nice. I want to further develop my illustrator skills and use it a lot more in my project as I think I can end up making a nice piece with it and I like how easy it is to navigate basic tools and there are a lot of different techniques I can try to experiment with.

then i used lots of different types of rectangles and squares for shading and colouring it in and i kept the outline of all the squares black so that they stand out and look more pixilated. I don't think I like using the shape tool but i wanted to try it out to see what it was like.

Ire created my little character on illustrator by doing a sketchy rough outline and figuring out a colour pallet for my character.

on separate layers i started colouring. for the first layer i just did base colours underneath the outline layer as i wanted to keep the rough sketchy outline as i like how it looks. i then did the really dark areas on the next layer for shadows and depth to make it look more 3d. and finally i used another layer to blend in the shading and dark colours with the base colours by turning the opacity down and slowly layering the colours up till its a smooth blend.

This was only my second time creating an illustration piece so i found it quite difficult. I used a mouse which made it harder to create neat lines and was hard to control. I also experimented with using different facial expressions and emotions with a character so i created another character to use expressions on. For this one i did an angry emotion by slanting the eyebrows down, having the mouth open and placing wrinkles in the necessary places such as around the brows, mouth, eyes and forehead.

I experimented with some character designing first sketching and drawing them on paper so i can then recreate some on illustrator and get some practice with using it. I went with a horror theme in my character designing as i said in my project concept horror was the style i wanted to go for and focus on. Barbara Kruger is a conceptual artist and collagist. She is known for her 'text based artworks' and her collage style and she also uses many different mediums such as photography, architecture, graphic design, video/audio installations and sculpture. She was born January 26th 1945 and lives in new York where she is a professor at the UCLA school of the arts and architecture. 'she uses the techniques of mass communication and advertising to explore gender and identity.' I like how all of her works are monochrome black and white will accents of red which she normally does around the words she adds and the important parts of the pieces. her art relates to my theme of women's rights a lot as she created her art in a political way and all her art is focused on themes such as consumerism, identity and power. She uses her art to influence people and show different views of these themes. One of her most famous pieces called 'I shop therefore i am' is something she made as an analysis towards consumerism and 'the materialistic nature of the modern world'. The phrase she used 'i shop therefore i am' is a re-phrase of a philosophical quote from someone called Rene Descartes who said 'i think therefore i am'.

The suffragettes were the biggest women's rights movement and started in 1903-1914 and ended due to the start of the WW.

It was formed when Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters became disappointed with the NUWSS' lack of progress with their movement so they started the suffragettes who fought for women's rights in the UK.

They did something called militant acts which included window smashing and chaining themselves to railings. Their biggest protest was called 'The mud march' where more than 3000 women marched from Hyde Park corner to the strand which happened in 1907 February 9th

The Guerrilla Girls are a group of anonymous feminists who create art on racism and sexism in the art, pop culture and film industry and to keep anonymous they names themselves after famous dead women. The group was made in 1985 in New York City that formed to go against the museum of modern art and the 'international survey of recent painting and sculpture' 1984 exhibition. This exhibition listed the top 169 artists in the world at that time and they found that only 13 of the artists were women. This caused them to form their group against the lack of women representation in the art world. They create work on racial and gender inequality in the forms of books, interviews, billboards, lectures, posters, and 'internet interventions.'

When doing my character design, i thought a lot about the style of little nightmares as a want to create something creepy and this game is exactly that. When thinking about what i can create for my final outcome i was thinking of creating a short animation which is horror based that i can use to represent something with women's rights. i haven't thought deeper into women's rights and what subject of it i want to focus on yet but i think that using this little nightmares style is an effective way to show how women may feel in certain situations. Little nightmares is a horror game that includes multiple different characters throughout the game. Most of these characters are designed to look distorted and sinister.

The concept artist for little nightmares 2 is a team of artists from TwoDots. They created key artworks and art pieces for the second game as well as lots other games and book series such as, Star Wars, Jurassic World Evolution, Forge Of Empires, Alien, and many more.

I have read a lot about why the different characters and scenery was made for the first and second little nightmares. I have read how they created a character that fits with the environment they were put in and the personalities each character and place was given and why. I also researched and read a lot into the body languages of some characters. All this can help me when i start created my small animation when it comes to body language and the reasons for the backgrounds and characters.

For an experiment we made an animation using Animate of a ball bouncy down and up just so we could see the basics of the animate. First we made a ball using the circle shape tool and changed the color to whatever we wanted and used the keyframe tool to move the ball down and up every few frames. I have some experience already using keyframes as i have used Adobe After Effects for a few years now so it was easy for me to understand the keyframe/frames part of this experiment.

After using a bit of adobe animate i wanted to create my own animation using one of my characters i designed a few weeks ago. I had to start by creating a character sheet of him in different poses and angles so it will be easier when i make the animation.

It was very difficult for me as i have never really tried drawing different angles and poses for the same person/object but i like what i created. I made normal standing ones and ones that were facing slightly to the left. I struggled mainly on the walking poses but using an animation walk sheet really helped me as I could see the way the legs move when someone walks. I needed three different poses for the walking animation which I managed to do fairly well. I also wanted to make a few poses to look as if my character was running but I struggled a lot with that and it took quite a few tried until I got one that i wanted. i used a separate layer for each pose so it would be easier for me to copy and paste them separately into animate.

Blender Experiment

as an experiment I wanted to try using blender. After someone from a university came in and showed us his work he mentioned blender a lot and I thought I could try it out for this project. I used a tutorial for this as its a new website and I wanted to learn properly rather than trying to guess myself. The tutorial showed me how to make a small cartoon on the 2D animation format which included creating the shapes, materials, colors and changing the positions, sizes, rotation and flipping/copy and pasting. It was very confusing as there was a lot of new words and techniques I didn't know but I mainly learned how to create different shapes and how to manipulate those shapes in different ways. Also how to create separate materials and layers which where for the different elements of the cartoon such as the eyes, iris and leaves.

The main reason I wanted to use blender was to see if it was something I wanted to learn more of and experiment more with in my project and possibly use for a final outcome but i don't think its something I want to use in this project. Mainly because of how much there is to learn and I much prefer using adobe software's like illustrator which I'm a lot more comfortable with.

Sara Lucas creates art such as sculptures, Collage, photography and makes art using found objects. I like how her sculptures are very abstract and different to any other type of 3d art work and her especially want to look at her sculptures and designs of people and the human body. How she designs her sculptures and her art is what i want to incorporate into my project and my final piece as i can use this style to represent feminism and the idealism of how women should look and how they're expected to look and act a certain way. I am going to create some character designing as a response to Sarah Lucas that i can then possibly develop more throughout my project. I am thinking of using inspiration from her 'HONEY PIE' exhibition which consisted of 10 sculptures that look like the kind of thing I want to create.

This is the final story board i made and this one i definitely like more as i think it looks neater and i didn't create a room or building in this one so it was a lot easier for me. I didn't get around to coloring the entire thing in but i mainly just wanted to experiment with a little bit of color on the butterfly i drew and also one of my character designs. Storing boarding is a good way of trying to drawing things in different views and perspective which is very useful if I decide to go further into animation throughout this project and can help me if i want to create more characters as I can use a story board to draw how they mover without spending a lot of time doing animate.

I wanted to create a few more ideas for characters that can be included with my final piece as I want to create an illustration. This one was inspired by some little nightmares concept art that I thought would be good to design something with and I really like the colors I used for this. I also really like how unreal this face looks as it gives off an earie vibe and looks creepy which is what I am going for with the final outcome. I tried to experiment with more layers this time as normally I use one layer for the outline and one for everything else such as the coloring and shading but i tried to make separate layers for the base color and the shading of the shadows and lighter parts which i made the light come from the left just so when shading i can identify what parts of the face i wanted to have more depth and what parts where more outward. The layers help me a lot when creating characters as i can separate as many different elements in my piece as i need and it helps a lot to keep my piece looking much cleaner as i can edit each element separately.

The next character idea is similar to the other one but I chose a different colour scheme as I really like all the blue tints in the little nightmares art so I wanted to try a character in that type of colour. For this one I tried to add more layers again like the other character face which made it a lot easier to draw. I wanted this character to look as though their face was melting down and drooping like its face was going to fall off which is why I tried to make all the details and lines face downward to give it that effect. I think I like this one better than the previous one as it is much cleaner and i think the blue definitely works better that the undersaturated brown/orange colour.

The last next thing i wanted to try and make was a body for this character which i find much harder to do than the faces as i struggle with proportions of the human body. So because of this, I tried to make it more distorted and not so human like. For my character like the long arms and long, crooked neck.

After a few character designing i wanted to test out some background ideas i had and this was the first one. It is heavily inspired by the little nightmares scenery of 'The Pale City' especially when i did the curved buildings at the side. This is supposed to be a city with buildings floating in the back as i like how surreal it kind of looks and i also really like the colours i used on this drawing as it matched nicely with the colours i want to use for my character. I struggle to try and create realistic art when I'm not using a reference and just drawing from my mind so I'm not sure how realistic i can do my final piece because i do want some realism when it comes to the colour, shading and details as i think the realistic colouring would look good with the unrealistic proportions and style.

It was suggested to me that i should see what my drawing would look like if I also changed the colour of the line work to see what effect it would have on my piece and to see if it would more blended together if my lines were brown rather than a black. I do like how it looks and I think it works a lot better.

after I fixed up the bottom part of the picture i was done with this background and I really like how it turned out. Because this is an experimental drawing i didn't want to spend too long on the details which is why i think it looks messy but I like it and I think I want to make a similar background in my final piece as the idea I have for the eyes on the wall is to have them all looking towards my character as if they're watching and judging her. when I make my final outcome I might need to experiment more with the colour scheme as I like the colours with this background but I want my character to have that blue kind of lighting on her.

I then did a quick little background because i found a gaussian blur tool which made my lines smoother and feathered like i wanted to do with my other piece. I like how the gaussian blur on the brush tool helps the colours blend together a lot nicer and it looks much smoother.

I don't think photoshop is what I want to focus on in my project as it is a very graphical software and i think i want to do more of the drawing side of digital. I liked learning some of the tools and techniques in photoshop as it can help me if I need to edit a piece I make or any image throughout my project and I liked using it to create a response towards Barbara Kruger as some of her pieces are digital and knowing photo shop made it easier for me to create something referencing her art.

The problem with my designs is that they look more masculine which is not what i was going for. I want my character/characters to represent what it feels like to be told how women should act and how we are expected to have an unrealistic appearance. In little nightmares 2, the game is based in a city called 'The Pale City' which has a whole history and theories on how the city ended up looking how it does which i thought was interesting to look and think about. When you first see The Pale City, you can’t see from the style and way it looks that the meaning behind it is scary and ominous. That is what I want to do for my character. I started on making my background for my outcome and I really like how it’s going at the moment. I have been having trouble with the layers and the eraser tools messing up but I’ve managed to work my way around this and neaten up my piece. The background is not done as I want to take pictures of my eye as a reference to make the eyes on my piece so I can try and make it more realistic than my other practice one. I am still not sure exactly what my character in the middle is going to look like but I know I want her to have very unrealistic and surreal proportions to make it more little nightmares like.

I hid the background layers to help me focus more on the character and I managed to create this. I like how her face turned out and I like the colour and shading i did on it but I don't like the rest of my image liker her dress and the colours. Originally i was going to use more cooler, blue tones like one of my other character faces but once I decided on doing green in the background I decided to do warmer, orange tones as i think it looks nicer with the green and brown on the walls.

I wanted my character to represent a feeling or emotion that women may feel and I did this by adding in my own personal feeling such as when I created the eyes I wanted to add an insecurity I have about the outer parts of my eyes being slightly downwards so i exadurated that in this piece. I also add deep smile lines as that is something else i think about a lot on myself. I also wanted to add some unrealistic aspects such as the head shape and long neck just to represent how some standards society has towards women are unrealistic like how much a women should weigh or how women are not expected to be good at 'a mans job' like firefighters, mechanics and carpenters.

This is my final animation i made of my little character with adobe animate and it took about a day and a half to make mainly because of all the different drawings i had to make. I really like my animation as i think that the walking pose reference i had helped the walking look more realistic.

after i finished my illustrator work i wanted to experiment with some photoshop. I started by changing some colours and the saturation like this. I thought that turning the saturation down on my character and bringing up the contrast would make my image look more meaningful and emotional but i think it stops my character from blending in with the background and it doesn't fit the style very well in my opinion.

to try and help in blend and fit more i copy and pasted my character into photoshop and changed the shape of her completely black then added a blue to create a shadow effect. I added it back to illustrator to put it underneath my character layers and moved it around and played about with the opacity. I think this makes it look a lot better than without the shadow but I still think that the black and white effect doesn't look as good as with colour.

i worked a bit more on the background with photoshop and copy and pasted the eyes I drew to create more of an illusion effect. I changed some of the colour on the eyes and saturation so they weren't all the same and I resized some to have them surrounding her more. I like this as it creates more of a intimidating and scary effect with the eyes which shows more how it feels to think you're being judged by everyone and having a fear of people watching or staring at you. Its easy for anyone with heavy insecurities to think like this and to always feel judged.
