Part One (Questions in English)

1. The things that I am able to express in Spanish that I learned in Spanish II are directions, stories, past-tenses, and general descriptions of others. I feel a lot more comfortable writing stories, and in Spanish I, I always struggled to even write a few sentences. Mi Vida Loca has helped me with general conversation and directions. I can express how I found my apartment, and even about an assassin who destroyed a party. I am able to branch out more greatly with my family, and speak about baptisms. I have a much greater understanding of pronouns in both Spanish and English, and the imperfect and preterite tenses.
2. A difference I see is that the adjectives come after the nouns, and they also agree in gender and plurality. This does not happen in English. We would just say the dog is red. Also, I used it looks like lo usé in Spanish. It comes before the verb which is different. The progressives utilize another verb, estar, to create a gerund. In English, we just add "ING", but in Spanish, there are multiple endings. There are also verbs that express you doing something to yourself called reflexives, and this doesn't really occur in English.
3. I distinctly remember learning about the sport, Jai Alai, where the players use strange bats to launch balls at up to 188 miles per hour. I thought it was crazy to learn that festivals in Spain go on for days and even weeks at a time. I thought the festival where they spend a year to make beautiful paper mache, only to destroy it, was interesting. I appreciate the difference between Christmas in the two countries. In Spain, no gifts are given on Christmas. Children must wait until Three Kings Day to receive a gift. I did not know that there were so many varying climates in Spain. You can go to the mountains where it is freezing, or you can go to the more tropical Canary Islands. I loved to learn about all the Spanish artists, and it was strange to learn that Kahlo is not Spanish. I learned that the royal family is followed extensively by the media and that Spain is a constitutional monarchy. Spain is also predominantly Catholic. I had no idea that the Spanish have a break everyday to socialize and sleep. That would be really nice to have in America. It would help boost friendliness and social well-being.
4. I am continuing on to Spanish 3 and 4. I hope to learn more about the future tenses of Spanish and more vocabulary. I want to make more clear distinctions between imperfect and preterite. I also want to learn more about what the subjunctive tense is, and if we will need that. I want to learn more about Spanish literature, and maybe try to read a Spanish classic in Spanish. Further in the future, I would like to become fluent in order to join Peace Corps and teach children in a Spanish-speaking country.

Part Two (Questions in English)

1. Learning Spanish in an online class was challenging at times. I struggled with communication issues at times, and had questions that needed to be answered right away. I liked that I could go at my own pace and still maintain a summer vacation. I worked ahead to go to the beach, and that was very rewarding. I feel that through the online experience, you are writing and speaking much more. In my Spanish I class, we wrote at most two original sentences a day. This was not helping me, and I like how much I have been able to write now. I have loved every online class that I have taken, and this one was very rewarding.
2. As I said, I disliked some of the communication issues. Overall, the RLCs did not help much because they interfered with my schedule a lot and by the time I attended them, it was information I already knew. It wasn't very valuable to me. The eLingua Profile was a great tracker of knowledge, but I feel like the website itself could be updated. I really liked the audio discussion boards because I could formulate a response to someone by listening to someone who could speak some Spanish. I was practicing writing and speaking in the same assignment. I personally think there should have been more. I liked the fact that we had a lot of freedom with our assignments and the final projects were always fun because I made up a fake family, school, community, etc.
3. In this course, printing all the vocabulary out and memorizing it helped me to learn that. I would take notes about culture and grammar by hand which reiterated the information. I liked the grammar presentations because I could click through the slides to reach certain parts. To improve my Spanish learning in the future, I will watch more videos about things I do not understand fully. I feel like I did not utilize videos enough to my advantage, and will do so in Spanish III. I can make quizlets for vocabulary in the future as well.
4. My teacher helped me learn by answering my texts whenever I had questions. She always made sure to send me a link to a trustworthy resource if I was still not grasping a concept. She did not get mad at me even if I was failing to understand. In my RLCs, when I had questions, she always answered those as well. I think a good idea is to create a certain question time maybe every few days where the teacher can get on blackboard for fifteen minutes and answer questions. This would help greatly, so when I am doing assignments, I can get the question answered there.

Mi escuela en España era pequeña, pero era muy limpia. Mis profesores eran inteligentes, pero no me gustaba la profesora de inglés. La clase de inglés era muy fácil porque sabía inglés. Mi clase favorita era banda porque cuando tocaba mi trompeta, era muy divertido. También, me gustaba la clase de historia. La clase y el profesor eran muy interesante. De vez en cuando, era muy aburrido. Mi escuela ofreció muchas actividades extracurriculares. Mi equipo favorito era el equipo de fútbol. Nuestro equipo era muy talentoso. Yo era un miembro de la banda de marcha. Ganábamos cada competencia.

Mi apartamento en España era muy vistoso, y la pared era rosada. Mi familia anfitriona y yo encontramos nuestro apartamento en el periódico. Rentamos nuestro apartamento por tres ańos. El dueño era muy simpático, y arreglaba cada problema. Había muchos quehaceres en nuestro apartamento. Por ejemplo, cada domingo, yo pasaba la aspiradora. Mi hermana, Margarita, arreglaba los cuartos cada lunes. Mi dormitorio era muy chico porque mi hermana y yo lo compartimos. Mi cama era azul, pero su cama era rosada. No me gustaba el color rosado porque era muy femenino.

En España, mi familia era muy grande. Había seis niños en mi familia. El apartamento era lleno. Mi hermana, Margarita, tenía dieciséis años. Yo tenía quince años. Nos convertimos amigas. Mi madre hacía desayuno, almuerzo, y cena cada día. Sus comidas eran siempre buenas. Mi padre trabajaba en mi escuela. Él era un profesor de matemáticas. Me ayudaba con mi tarea cada noche. Mis bisabuelos eran argentinos, pero mis otros bisabuelos eran uruguayos. Mi familia y yo nos saludábamos cada día con un abrazo. Mi hermano, Juan, jugaba con un muñeco en las mañanas. Era su juguete favorito.

Cada fin de semana, mi familia y yo íbamos a la heladería conseguir helado. Mi sabor favorito era té verde, pero el sabor favorito de mi madre era chocolate. Me gustaba ir al acuario cada fin de semana porque las tortugas eran mi animal favorito. Los domingos, mi familia anfitriona y yo íbamos al catedral para el sermón. Rezaba por veinte minutos en el catedral. Mi lugar favorito era la tienda de animales. Había muchos animales. Por ejemplo, había conejos, hámsters, y gatos. Una vez, mi familia compró un gato blanco. Su nombre era "Limón."

En España, mi familia y yo comíamos mucha comida. Mi comida favorita era paella. Era un plato con mariscos, pollo, y arroz. Me gustaba tapas también. Mis verduras favoritos eran zanahorias, lima, y aguacate. Mis frutas favoritas eran sandía, uvas, y papaya. Para mantener mi salud, hice aerobicos. También, hice la cinta. No comía comida grasosa y dulce. Usaba la estufa para cocinar comida. Usaba una batidora para hacer un batido. En cada restaurante, mi madre ordenaba un pastel de chocolate. Era muy rico, y la receta no era complicada.

En España, mi familia yo íbamos al mercado cada fin de semana. Era siempre una experiencia buena. Raúl, mi mejor amigo, trabajaba allí. En el mercado, comprábamos verduras frescos y frutas frescas. Una vez, my familia y yo fuimos al Corte Inglés. La tienda era enorme, y vendió ropa, muebles, y comida. En El Corte Inglés, yo compré una cama nueva porque mi hermana, Margarita, movió. Yo compré una camiseta, y era pequeña. Mi color favorito era azul claro, pero la camiseta era turquesa. Para comprar la ropa, mi madre usó una tarjeta de crédito. La camiseta costó diez euros.

En mi comunidad, había un médico, un bombero, detectives, y unos paramédicos. Una vez, caí en las escaleras. Mi madre hizo una llamada al paramédicos. Ellos vinieron a mi casa, y me dio un yeso. Mi madre iba a la farmacia cada miércoles para una receta. La receta era para su tos. Un día, mi familia y yo fuimos al parque. Hubo un incendio, y el incendio destruyó el columpio. Los bomberos vinieron al parque, y rescataron los niños. La policía detuvo mi hermano porque mi hermano vendió drogas a Maria.
