As the hungry caterpillar eats and grows, it becomes too big for its skin. The old skin splits open and the caterpillar wriggles out in a brand- New skin, then it eats the skin then goes back to munching leaves. Some catetpillars eat plants and some may eat your clothes . But a caterpillar is not always easy to catch. many are green or brown they are hard to spot. A few caterpillars seem too disgusting to eat. They may look like bird poop or they may throw up green juice if they are attacked

A life of a butterfly or moths begins with an egg it is no bigger than a grain of sand it may look like a ball, a barrel,or a saucer. Some butterfly lay their eggs on top of each other. after a week the egg will have a tiny dots inside and the dots would move around. With a hand lens you can see the head of a caterpillar chewing a hole to get its way out. When the caterpillar crawls out it is barely bigger than a comma and it just want to it so it just eat whats under its feet. It has very strong jaws and chew up chunks of leaves. Their are 12 or so tiny eyes that can tell from the dark. There are also small hairs on a caterpillar's body which sense touch and warn it about enemies. They also can stick to leaves like webbing so they can move around with out falling off their food. They also have six legs and usually ten claspers called prolegs

The caterpillar wanders away to find a safe place to turn into a pupa. Moths have a silk shelter called a cocoon. Inside the body the body is breaking down into a soup this is called metamorphosis. Then the cocoon or pupa it splits open and the adult crawls out. Their wings are the most beautiful things ever if you look closely and you will see that they are covered in tiny scales. Did you know that butterflies and moths have instead of twelve or so tiny eyes it had as a caterpillar, the butterfly now has thousands of light sensors. sphinx moths can zoom through the air at thirty miles an hour. During the fall butterflies can fly over 2,000 miles from Canada to Mexico and that's where they spend the winter.
