DISCUSS THE VALUE OR SIGNIFICANCE TO HUMAN LIFE (W/ INTERVIEW TO SUPPORT THE ARGUMENTS)

When we think about good architecture, we really think deep on the principles and elements put into good use for architecture to have significance. The new library that was constructively designed inside the university is filled with a substance that maintains its form to not just be an ordinary site catering to the students, professors, and even visitors. As a student, I conducted an interview with someone who quite frankly knows the vicinity; Librarian Ms. Mary Clare Megalbio was willing enough to answer questions in regards to her values or significance of the architecture to her and also to human life.

One thing we have to look at is how does architecture affect human behavior? Ms. Megalbio voiced out on her own perspective in light of the new architectural structure and it is conducive to learning because space fits the appropriate proportion to the students. It gives a good impression of the school like the interior that balances out what makes it important in itself. Following up to her reply, she added that in having good architecture we must follow its principles of form follows function because without the basis or foundation of the form we cant see the functionality of the architecture; its basically a progress of efficient design and innovation that makes it relevant even until the future.

Often times, we tend to overlook the beauty of architecture. It just seems like an ordinary building for the public eye but it's much more than that. The appreciation for good architecture is disregarded as a lot of us use it as a way to make it either profitable for business or just a space without essence but we don't actually see is that it enhances our daily lives; and that what Ms. Megalbio was trying to say that we take architecture for granted to the point we forget our integrity of why is it important in our lives as human beings.

The major thing in regards to architecture and lastly the question I want to know from Ms. Megalbio is how is it really that important in our lives towards architecture? And her answer is very simple. It basically enriches human life, drastically changing our perspectives on the world we look upon and with the new library that the school built, we look at it as something peaceful and serenity for ourselves, and thus we better appreciate it more in life.

HOW DOES THE PROPORTION AFFECT THE SENSE OF SPACE?

The New Library follows an octagon shape; however not like the regular octagon which has the same sides are larger than others. Facing from the library cafe, the right side is utilized more for studying places, with desks, tables, chairs, and even computers. While the left side is utilized for books, it is because horizontally the space is limited. The library was built more vertically making it have high ceilings and a longitudinal plan. The height itself, the public saw it as an opportunity to add a second floor. For more study places catering to the students, it is more for a fact if you want to study alone to focus, and also for offices as well. On the second floor which is the main floor of the library are rooms for discussions and the use of both computers and books. Since it follows an octagon, its sides allow a division. The same sides are used for the front desk, study area, another is for the research area like books and lastly is the cafe. Since its a tall space, with the tall windows, are used for natural light to give depth. The first flow of the library is the same idea but with a more open space used for either students or professors.

The space can be described as an octagon shape that follows a symmetrical pattern. From the ALB pond that has an octagon shape. It follows upwards to the building; it also follows the Golden Section or the Fibonacci series wherein the columns of books have the same measurement of space to look pleasing to the eyes. Another one is regulating lines wherein the measurement is proportional to each side. Lastly is the classical order in which the columns are proportioned to one another in order to support the building.
