Other guitar players and friends would be able to keep me in check with what I would be doing in between practices. I would be able to give feedback to me about the solo, the elements of it, and how it would progress. Other family members who are familiar with my playing style could also give me good feedback on what sounds good and vice versa.

Intention: I want to grow the capability element of committing to a purpose. Developing this element would be meaningful to me because I have a bit passion for music, and I would like to better myself further.

Milestone: By the beginning of Term 4 I aim to have a well practiced solo for guitar that I can present to others during a performance at school. This solo will be at least 5 minutes long, showcasing a range of technical skills, both musically, and physically.

Practise: The micro-habit I will do for the 2-3 weeks is to practise at least 30 minutes each day. Practise is an essential part to any instrument, and with the background experienced already at my hands, I am able to further drive my skills with that enhanced practice.

Anticipate obstacles: I may be distracted by some other areas of my life when trying to develop my solo. These distractions may be other work, my job, or making time for friends. This may be an obstacle that I would need to overcome in order to properly create the solo.

Check in plans

Check one - have a basic outline of the solo, start experimenting with the sounds and progression

Check two - Be more confident with the parts I have constructed earlier

Check three - Experiment more with the outline, and have a formed progression with the entire solo.

The high gain and distortion helps to have a homage to the other artists in which I am basing my solo off of.

Where else would you like to go with the solo, what direction of sound?

- I would like to start to form a memorable part, maybe lots of repetition, and a high part that would show the versatility of the guitar, as well as the sounds I am able to make with it.

How do you think you will blend the sounds of other solos into yours?

- I think using very specific parts from other solos, such as picking techniques, tones, licks, and riffs, and sometimes even creating slightly different sounds would help me to implement the sounds into my work.

Based on the completed solo, do you think you have covered all of the areas in which you wanted to based on the other check ins?

- In general, I think the solo was well rounded, and touched on most if not all the areas I would have liked to showcase and improve on. These include riffs, legato, high neck motifs, and tapping.

Are you able to see the journey of your technique from when you started, to now, and can you name any examples?

- Yes, from the start of this process, I was unsure of a couple techniques, and had to rely on the provided videos to really see what the guitarists were doing with their hands. Tapping for instance, is quite a technical skill to acquire, however with the practise that was used throughout the process of writing the solo, I was able to master it.

Are you happy with the length of the solo, would you shorten it or elongate it if you did this another time?

- If I were to do another solo, I think I might really hone in on one or two techniques, just because the audience may lose the attention. Though the solos that were mentioned on the videos are generally long, I think a short, sharp and shiny solo would really grab the viewer's attention, and for the setting in which it was in, that is the optimal strategy.

Because my EIF task was based off of an instrument I have already played for quite some time, I was already over the obstacle of getting familiar with it. Meaning I was able to quickly style my playing skills without having to put in extra effort to an extent. Another advantage I had was the musical knowledge, both listening and playing. I already listen to music that includes similar sounding solos, meaning I have a vast array of inspirational videos, songs, albums, etc. Using my prior knowledge of music theory, chord progressions, tone, engagement with various sounds that can come from the guitar, etc. I was able to blend various elements together, in order to build the concoction of the solo.

I will need to show the element of committing to purpose, in order to finish the project, and assist myself in the progression of the solo. Using methods like the check in buddy, observing how I am traveling throughout the task, and providing video and audio evidence when it is necessary.
