Lisa drops of Starr and Sekani where Starr has to start acting "white" and not talk slang/stank eye or "ghetto" due being a white school. We're immediately greeted to Maya and another white Asian student. Her thoughts go to Ryan which is the only other black student at the school and everyone would believe they would start dating due to their skin color and being the only other colored students. They find Hailey which is Starr's longest known friend. They soon talk about their spring break and Starr feels "distant" due to Hailey unfollowing her on Tumblr after posting a picture of Emmet Till (which in another way is I don't want to be your friend anymore). She then recalls that they became friends exactly when Natasha was killed (Starr's friend that died by getting shot in a drive by) and Hailey's mother died of cancer. Starr soon runs into her boyfriend Chris even though she's been trying to ignore him after he pulled a condom in his bedroom when she wasn't ready to have sex yet. She then can't ignore him after his new music he dropped on her and feels she can be her true self instead of her white self with Chris. Till she gets a flashback making her recoil from from it. After school ends Seven picks up Sekani and Starr with Layla which is Seven's girlfriend and soon enough a cop car passes by and tension fills the car until reaching the freeway. Yet when arriving to the clinic to greet Lisa, Brenda shows up (Khalil's mom) and how she was over he grief of Khalil's death. Then Starr proceeds to call her out for it till Lisa scolds her for judging.

Carlos shows up and says in order for the case to be proper the interview has to be done that same day, then Lisa demands to be able to be right next to Starr during the interview. Starr is reminded by the talk and soon puts her non-ghetto speech. The detectives start off by asking if Khalil seemed nervous or "irate" but Starr starts to become nervous and starts to panic. Starr then calms down and cools off after remembering that her dad told her not to let them place words in her mouth and she denies and answers that Khalil was beign difficult. Yet the detectives move on to still calling Khalil as resistant to arrest and Starr loses her patience because she felt like she was the one being on trial instead of 115 (the officer/his badge).

The chapter starts off with the TV mentioning Khalil as a "Suspected Drug Dealer". At Williamson (white school that Starr attends) they serve fried chicken for lunch and to her surprise she notices Chris but comes to a realization that if she really is being herself/feels that she is betraying Khalil by dating Chris. Starr, Maya and Hailey all end up at PE and at the basketball court, and to the surprise Hailey forces Maya and Starr to play making her the "friend group leader". Starr is unfocused at the game and Hailey makes a racist comment stating “pretend the ball is some fried chicken.”, they end up loosing the game and Starr claims to Hailey about the racist comment. Hailey surprised responds with the intention to the lunch they had and not racism. Soon enough Hailey and Maya question Starr whether the Khalil they saw on the news was the Khalil that attended her birthday party and if that's the reason why she's acting up. Starr feeling betrayed she denies knowing any Khalil due to Hailey referring Khalil as a a "Drug dealer" and Starr feeling that no one will see Khalil for who he actually is. Hailey then questions Starr if its about the anniversary of Natasha, coming to the realization that Hailey mother's anniversary was a few weeks back., making Starr run crying out of pure emotions, and to her thoughts everyone believes she is "the weak black girl". Starr heads to the headmaster and blames it on cramps for her uncle Carlos to come pick her up. Carlos takes Starr for frozen yogurt and calls out Starr for the inconvenience where Starr counters it with why has 115 not been arrested yet, and Carlos defends him saying nobody can know the outcome of such situations. Starr soon confesses that 115 pointed a gun at her for his own safety and Carlos repeatedly apologizes.

After 2 weeks after the meeting of Starr and the judge Seven has drove Starr to school and has become more aware of Starr, not to mention the fact of keeping track of King after Starr snitching him out. Hailey approaches Starr and confront her about not knowing Khalil by showing her proof of his "mugshot" and a picture of him from her 12 birthday party. Hailey demands for an apology from Star for lying and calling her racist bu Maya comes and defends Starr insisting that Maya has said racist comments before. Hailey upset responds that Khalil would have been killed soon enough, and the cops did a favor by killing him (a drug dealer and a gang banger). Starr punches Hailey in the face till Remy (Hailey's brother) gets involved along with Seven. The 4 of them get suspended and Lisa scolds both Seven and Starr for being suspended. Later at the Carter's both King Lords and Garden Disciples find themselves to set things aside and it only gives cops an advantage if they're fighting one another.

3 weeks later, the Crater family has moved to their new house, and Starr feels safe and she misses her old people from garden heights. Starr soon texts Chris where he picks her up and they go to his place (mansion). Starr feels upset looking at the finery in Chris's house, due to the different ways they grew up and Starr feels that Chris should be with somebody that is white and rich like him. Soon enough Chris responds that he loves Starr for who she is, Starr gets intimate and the two began to make out, then Starr insures Chris that she is ready to partake in sexual intercourse. Chris feels guilty and doesn't want to take advantage of Starr so he holds her instead while she cries. Starr gets a call from Seven informing that DeVante is gone, and they soon go search for him at Lesha's. They go to Lesha's bedroom to find DeVante on the floor with blood all over the carpet dripping from his mouth. They get DeVante out along with Lyric, while Lesha dances in front of King to distract him so they have enough time to get out. A song by Tupac plays about "making changes" but as soon as the song ends on the radio the station states that Jury has decided not to indict.

Hailey texts Starr to also apologize for the situation and how Starr is upset with her. Yet Starr knows that Hailey is not sorry for her actions and things will never go back to the way they were. Carters help out clean the streets of Garden Heights, then Kenya arrives and informs Starr how King beat up Lesha and she was in the hospital. Kenya then apologizes to Starr for calling him "my brother" instead or "our brother" due to feeling insecure about their relationship, fearing that he would choose the Carters due to being ashamed of Kenya's side of the family. But Starr assure her that they will "rebuild" everything including Garden Heights and family. Starr says Khalil would be known as a thug but to her he was the hazel-eyes boy with dimples and how she will never forget his death and the fight for justice. She then lists names of black victims such as Emmett Till, and how people in their communities such as Garden Heights are fighting back, she then promise she will never be quiet, forget nor give up.
