Concluded that it was because of witchcraft. Other girls soon claimed they were affected by witchcraft and the trials began. The girls would react in strange ways when an accused witch was present, which is shown in the picture below. By the end of 1692, over 200 people were accused and jailed for witchcraft. Only 19 of those 200 were hung.
