Both include "aliens", though the meaning of what an alien is/truly looks like is left up to interpretation and depends on how the writer intended for you to view those "aliens" and the societies that surround them. However, the form of communication that intrigued me the most was when they brought in screens to display the words while Louise tried to communicate with them and Gary acted the words out. "We began with some simple intransitive verbs: walking, jumping, speaking, writing. Gary demonstrated each one with a charming lack of self-consciousness; the presence of the video camera didn't inhibit him at all." They've completely assimilated themselves into the culture of the planet and its inhabitants, and Mist makes a very good point in regards to this by saying, "Our families have roamed the starry seas for centuries. Others accepted us; they saw our gifts, not our lack. Mist never wanted her daughter, Flowers-In-The-Sun to receive those, but her family still went behind her back and let her daughter go through with it without her permission- an intense betrayal, surely. Citizens of Earth today already have the tendency to make things go their way or else you have to face the highway, and it seems to be no different in the future.
