  • Men hold the highest percentage of those in Prison ( 93.2%) whilst women hold  a 6.8%  
  • Women commit 9.6% of the murders, but make up 1.8% of death row inmates
  • State more likely to execute a man rather than a woman
  • 0.9% (~5,093) of women have been executed since 1930

  • About 130,000 prisoners are held in "for-profit" prisons. 
    • If every prisoner is added up then the total is 2.3 million people, that is one out of every 135 citizens
