Broken Promises can lead to someone being untrustworthy

The theme Broken Promises is pretty straight forward which is just promises that were broken and it happens more than usual in this book such as in this quote "I wonder what life will be like now" I said to Lori. "The same" she said. He tried stopping before, but it never lasted." This just shows how the theme broken promises is a big role in this book because like Lori said everything was going to be the same which happens most of the time. In addition to this theme another time this theme came into play was when Rex told them to build a big hole in Welch because it was going to be the foundation of the Glass castle but all they did was fill it with trash. I think the author is trying to show that this would happen often in their family. Lastly I choose this picture because this best describes this quote of Jeannette and her siblings being the pavement and there’s parents always lying and that why theirs a crack through it.

Sometimes people need to tell difference between Fantasy and reality to move on.

The theme Fantasy vs Reality is a big part of this book which outlines in this quote "We were always doing the skedaddle." "I sometimes heard Mom and Dad discussing the people who were after us." This quote just shows how their parents were always in a fantasy saying that there was people after them and their family. Also it seems like they’re always in a fantasy saying that they would build the glass castle which they never did and Rex kept Insisting this to Jeannette. I believe this a big part of why they’re family became the way they are. Lastly I Included this picture because thats what imagine what they’re fantasy was always running away.

Unconditional love is nothing but a tool.

One big theme In this book that happens a lot is Unconditional Love that comes into play pretty frequently to Jeannette towards her father and this describes it the best in this quote "Hon, I need some money" he said. "For what" "Beer and Cigarettes. " " Ive got sort of a tight budget, Dad." "I don’t need much. Just five dollars." The quote just shows even though she was on a tight budget she still gave her dad the 5 dollars and thats how the Unconditional Love comes in since she didn’t expect nothing back in return but still cared enough to give him money. I choose this picture because this best represents the relationship she had with her father always loving him but did not expect anything from him which explains the tear in the middle.

Disappointment can lead too many peoples downfall.

I decided on this picture because in this whole book there was many disappointing moments that lead to this family’s downfall including like as in this quote "You can borrow from Eric," Mom said again. "Well, how much?" "A million dollars." "You mean you own land worth a million dollars?" I was thunder struck she said. This just clearly shows how disappointed she was in her own mother since this whole time they had land worth a million dollars and this could’ve helped them back when they were struggling in Welch but she kept it for herself.

Alcoholism can lead people a dark path in life.

I specifically choose this picture because it best defines the relationship Rex had with his family, that was he was nothing but a drunk person in their family and a lot in this book including like in this quote "You bastard" Lori shouted "You stole all our money!" "What the goddamn hell are you talking about?" Dad asked "and watch your language." This demonstrates how he lied to his daughters about stealing their money and this all had to due to the fact he had to keep feeding his Alcohol addiction. The quote also demonstrates that when he was drunk he only thought of himself and nobody else.

Forgiveness can bring closure when you need it the most.

The reason I choose this picture was because of the relationship she had with her dad because towards the end of the book they got closure which establishes in this quote " But you always loved your old man, didn’t you?" " I did dad." I said " And you loved me." "Now thats the god honest truth." Dad chuckled. "We had some good times didn’t we?" The forgiveness she gives her dad at the end of the book gives closure to both of them since the whole family went through pretty tough times. Especially Jeannette it would’ve probably made her feel good even though it was hard to forgive him.
