Morning meeting sets the tone for the day because it establishes that social time is over and learning has begun. The order for my routine is: morning message, activity, share and greeting. I do an informal greeting when they walk through the door, but save the whole group formal greeting for last, right before they got to success so they will have high energy.

My favorite morning greeting is the class handshake because they make it up. After everyone learns it, it is like a secret handshake we can do anywhere. The activity is always writing in your journal, it is interactive, and I randomly choose five people a day to share.

Morning meeting sets the tone in our classroom by providing them a chance to get their wiggles out, but also a chance to talk with me and their classmates about different activities. It lets my students know that social time is over and it is time for us to begin our learning for the day.

I believe my classes favorite greeting is definitely saying hello to friends in a different language. Every Monday we pick a new language to learn to say hello in, they are also so shocked, but so eager to greet their friends in this language. The favorite class activity is hot potato. They love it so much they play it at the end of the day while waiting on parents to pick up!

They were very hesitant to do any activity that involved talking to students that they didn't regularly hang out with. They've gotten better about that.

By spending the beginning of the year with lots of greeting, they get to know each other which makes for a better classroom community. It is a nice way to start the day on a good note.

I don't actually have a formal morning meeting each day, but I do get the chance to greet the students on the third floor each morning. This sets the tone for the day by letting them know they are welcomed and safe at our school. If I see a student who looks upset, I always pull them to the side and try to figure out the problem so it doesn't ruin their whole day.

Morning are very important to the fabric of what we do here every day. Even before the meeting starts, educators should be able to assess the mood and attitude of a student as they enter the classroom. Once the routine of morning meetings has begun, it is also then that teachers should be able to determine how a student is feeling by any response they give or even their body language as they listen to their classmates. There is sometimes "exterior noise" that gets in the way of a student being focused on whats happening inside the classroom. The can present itself to be an issue if it is not detected and sometimes even ignored. Morning meetings are a time so establish a community and classroom bond with the students and their classmates.
Students sometimes wear into school and class how they feel by the expression on their face and especially what they usually don't take into consideration, their body language. If you are paying close enough attention, those two things will often tell you all you need to know about attempting to get that student back on track so that their day is productive and not tumultuous.
