I found it difficult to determine what was a "dark" layer and what was a "light" layer aside from the extremes. As well as this, when the layers converged, I didn't know when to call it two layers or one layer. Aside from this, I think this method of dating could be quite reliable, as we have a set amount of layers to call it a year, two. So if we always see a set of two, counting off by them can give roughly an exact amount of years a fossil is.

I thought it was difficult when counting the layers. It was hard to tell which was a darker layer, and which was a light layer. If you can not tell, it alters your results and makes them inaccurate. I do not think this is an accurate way of absolute dating fossils. Because there is no exact number, many people will come to different conclusions. I think there is a better way of absolute dating fossils that will be more accurate. When there were layers all pressed together, you could not tell how many layers were together. This is another reason your counting would be inaccurate.

If they were all in a clump together, it was hard to separate them to different layers. I don’t think it is a great reliable source, but I do think it is an easy way to determine the ages of them, seeing how many seasons they went through.

I am mostly not sure if the large black layers were separated by smaller lighter layers or just a huge layer. On the black and whote paper, it felt near impossible to find fine layers since they blended into others. The small interconnected layers also confused me since It was hard to tell if they were parallel to the layer or were separate to it.

Some layers were barely even visible when I was counting them. Also, some of the lines were too curvy and seemed to mess with some of the other lines. I do not think this is an accurate way of dating the fossils. It is easy to mix up the counting which would make the results different from what it should be, meaning it would be inaccurate.

In my opinion, I didn’t really like this form of dating rocks as much when compared to other methods we have tried. The activity was hard to do because it was difficult counting every single layer accurately, especially since some were so thin that seemed faint. Almost like the layer were rubbed way too many times, and at some point just started to blend with each other. This is me speaking from only having the experience with the black and white papers.
