In term 1, we covered non fictional writing. We made an autobiography and we wrote about ourselves and our family.

English term 1.2-Novel

In term 1.2 we studied the novel ‘Skellig’. We analysed the language devices used in the book. To write our CFU, we had to study a few phrases from the text and write an analysis/PETAL paragraph to show what language devices have been used, stating a point, showing evidence in the text for the point, and we had to write a conclusion and explain what was happening in the phrases.

English Term 2.1-Poetry

We studied the poems ‘Flag’ and ‘Island man’. For our cfu, we had to write a poem analysis, or a PETAL paragraph analysing quotes picked out of the poems.

English term 2.2-Magazine

In the second half of term 2, we studied magazines, identifying the features and techniques used in most magazines. We made our own magazine covering a topic of our choice. We also made an interview with our chosen celebrity on our magazine.

Term 3.1-Shakespeare

We studied some of Shakespeare’s plays, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest. For our CFU, we made our own speech, which involves King Alonso motivating the sailors into working hard to save the ship.

Term 3

In term 3, we created an observational drawing of a reference picture of our choice. We focused on scaling, texture, contrast, shape and form and shadows. I picked a reference photo of ballet shoes. What went well with my drawing is the shape/proportion and for improvements, I needed to improve the tonal range, or the tone.

In term one, we had to create a wellbeing room that we could put in the school building. The room was supposed to be a place where people could study, relax or take a break. This room promoted self care, relaxation and overall time to take a break from work every so often.

MSC Term 3

In term 3 we are writing a story that explores one of the three cultures: Ancient Japanese culture, Aboriginal Australian culture and the Emirati/UAE culture. We had to include a Time Machine, a photograph, and a letter. We looked at the our chosen culture’s mannerisms, the foods, the clothing, the architecture and more.

MSC Term 1

In term 1 we explored the Middle Ages. I wrote a poem explaining the events that took place during the Black Death. We looked at the causes, the effects, and how Europe improved after the times of the pneumonic and bubonic plague/ the Black Death.

In terms of 3, we looked at HPL (High Performance Learning) skills and how they could help us with our learning. For example, meta-thinking helps us make progress while we learn topics as we think about our own thinking progress. Thinking about our thinking/meta-cognition can help us understand where we need to improve and where we already know.

Term 1.1-Keyboard Skills

At the start of term one, we focused on the keyboard. We learnt chords on the keyboard and used those chords to play "Shake it Off' by Taylor Swift.

Term 1.2 Guitar Skills

In the second half of term 2, we learnt some chords on the guitar: G,C,E minor and D. We looked at tablature and how to read it.

Term 2.1-Samba

In the first half of term 2, we made our own samba ensembles and we made our own pieces of Samba music. We used instruments like the snare drum, shakers and tambourines.

Term 2.2-songwriting

In term 2, we wrote our own song lyrics about the subject of our choice. My group wrote song lyrics about the ocean. We also made some music as a backing track for our song.

Term 3.1-Theme and Variation

At the start of term 3, we looked at theme and variation. In our CFU, we had to come up with atleast three different variations of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on the keyboard. Some of my group's variations included a fast version and a slow version.

Term 1

In term one, we looked at integers, order of operations and decimals. We learnt topics that are related to these and applied them to our half term CFU.

Term 2

In term 2, we demonstrated how we could use everyday items in times of distress, such as a natural disaster, and be resourceful. The items consisted of crayons, a tissue roll, honey, tuna oil, glue, napkins, garbage, chewing gum vinegar. My group's ideas included using chewing gum and napkins to make a makeshift bandage. We had make a toolbox of our tools and present it to the class.

Term 2

In term 2, we learnt about 2d shapes: lines of symmetry and shape properties, coordinates, factors, multiples, prime numbers, fractions and brackets. When we focused on shapes, we learnt about lines of symmetry and shape and line properties. In the topic of coordinates, we looked at shape problems that were included in coordinate questions and understanding coordinates. When we looked at fractions, we looked at finding fractions of shapes, simplifying fractions, ordering fractions, changing mixed numbers into improper fractions and more. Finally, when we explored brackets, we learnt how to expand and factorise brackets.

Term 3

In term 3, we explored statistics, angles, fractions, probability, decimals and percentages. When we looked at angles, we looked at things like drawing angles, measuring angles, vertically opposite angles and estimating angles in a shape. When we learnt about statistics, we learnt the types of statistic diagrams such as two-way tables, bar charts and stacked charts. We also looked at the types of averages like the mode, mean and the medium. Presenting data was also covered. We didn’t really learn probability and proportion in class but we did a little bit and we revised it for our test.

Term 2

In term 2, we explored the renaissance period. We learnt about how in the renaissance period, people moved away from relying on religious theories to experimenting and studying the human anatomy for educational purposes. We looked at how in the renaissance period, people moved away from religious and the medieval ways to moving towards transforming lifestyle, education and theories with realism.

Term 1

In term one, we looked at Islamic tiles and the characteristics of the art style. We saw how the patterns were symmetrical to eachother and how Islamic tiles insisted of geometric patterns. We made an artist research page in our sketchbooks about Abdul Qader Al Rais, an artist famous for his artworks inspired by the Emirati culture. We also made a page of our paper cutouts, our drawing of a mosque, and the oil pastel Islamic tile pieces we made.

The Periodic table

In the start of term one, we looked at the periodic table. When we learned about the periodic table, we learned about the 18 groups and the properties the elements were sorted into. We also learned how to form chemical equations and solve them.

Cells and organisms

In term one, we also focused on cells and organisms. We learned the difference between plant and animal cells and how they have different parts of the cell. We learned how to identify and label parts of animal and plant cells. We also learned the different types of cells and their properties. When we looked at organisms, we looked at stuff like the bones in our body and their names. We also looked at what was inside the bone and what the parts of the bone do to help the body. For example, the bone marrow produces red and white blood cells.

Matter and circuits

In term 2, we learned about matter and circuits. I found out that matter is everything around us, and it can be a solid, liquid, or gas. We learned how matter can change when it is heated or cooled. We also learned about electrical circuits and how electricity needs a full loop to work. I enjoyed making circuits and seeing how different materials can let electricity pass through.

Electromagnets and Ecosystems

In term 2, we learned about electromagnets and ecosystems. I found it exciting that we can use electricity to make a magnet. We tested different ways to make electromagnets stronger, which was fun. We also learned about ecosystems and how animals, plants, and their environment all depend on each other. I enjoyed learning how living things work together to survive.

Forces

When we looked at forces, we learnt how they affect the movement of objects. We learned different forces like air resistance, friction, the driving force and gravity. We also learned about relative motion, which is basically how the movement of one object looks from the perspective of another object.

Light, sound and water waves

In term 3, we learned about waves. We learned the types of waves: Transverse and Longitudinal, and we learned that light and water waves are transverse and sound waves are longitudinal. We also learned about labeling waves. In this topic, we learned about color too and how an object reflects its colour of light and absorbs all the other colours. For example, an orange car reflects orange light and absorbs all the other colors of the spectrum. In addition to this, we also learned about things like ultrasound, ultraviolet radiation and superposition.

Reading activities/Leseubung

In some German lessons, we did reading activities. These activities consisted of finding the differences between different paragraphs, filling in the blanks, and translating texts.

Term 2

In term two, we looked at the artist Peter Max and we studied his art style. His art style consists of vibrant colours that stand out, unique shapes like the peace sign, and overall an art style embodied by geometric shapes. Artworks by Peter Max are associated with visual arts and culture of the 1960s. In class, we made our own painting of an insect with Peter Max’s art style.

Listening activities/Höreubung

Sometimes, we did listening activities. When we did listening activities in class, we usually had an audio playing and sentences with gaps to fill. The sentences were statements or dialogues played in the text and we had to fill the gaps according to what the audio says.

In term one, the first topic we looked at was shopping. We learned how to make sentences about many things related to shopping; our shopping experiences, texts about online and physical shopping, and how to be careful when shopping online.

Term 2

In term 2, we learned about traveling. We looked at reading texts about different Arab countries and forming sentences about Arab countries with the right grammar and sentence structures. We did things like writing a text about an Arab country of our choice, speaking about Arab countries and writing about which Arab country we wanted to travel to.

Term 3

In term 3, we looked at health and safety. We learned how to explain topics like living a healthy lifestyle, following healthy diets, and advice to stay healthy in arabic. We also looked at a dialogue between 2 characters: a waiter/waitress and a customer. When we studies the dialogue, we looked at how we can order healthy food in Arabic. We learned new vocabulary related to the topic of healthy living as well.

Term 1

In term one, we mainly looked at the physical geography of different countries and how those physical features contributed to countries being a global superpower. Take the USA for example, its landscape is rich in physical features, such as possessing fertile land to grow crops that could be imported into other countries and feed tons around the world. In term one, we made a page of information about the USA’s famous physical and human features.

Term 2

In term 2, we learned about ecosystems. We explored the different types of ecosystems around the globe, which are the desert ecosystems, tropical ecosystems, polar ecosystems, Mediterranean ecosystems, temperate ecosystems and mountain ecosystems. We looked at the different physical features and climates in each ecosystem, for example, tropical ecosystems have humid and rainy climates with abundant plant and animal life.

Term 3

In term 3, we looked at population. We explored population change, terms of population (Birth rate, death rate), Less Economically Developed Country/countries (LEDC) and More Economically Developed Country/countries (MEDC). LEDCs appear to have less capital income, high poverty rates and low standards of living among the citizens. Meanwhile, MEDCs have high levels of economic development, lower poverty rates and a high standard of living-opposite to an LEDC. In term 3, we also looked at the One Child Policy (OCP) in China.

The Anglo Saxons

In term 3, we learned about the Anglo-Saxons. The Anglo-Saxons were people from a mix of tribes from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands. We looked at their lifestyle and how they lived and their reign on England. One lesson, we looked at the fight over the throne of England between the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons. We concluded with the statement that the Vikings reigned for longer and had the most power as they were more consistent with their reign. In another lesson, we had to research about the kind of jobs the Anglo-Saxons did, what kind of houses they lived in, why they came to England and where they came from. The Anglo-Saxons worked jobs like being blacksmiths, farmers, weavers, etc.

Rotten or Not Rotten Rulers

In term 2, we looked at different leaders of different countries. We learned about Mary I, Genghis Khan, Vlad the Impaler and Emperor Nero. We had a mock trial where we got into table groups and picked a leader each. We researched crimes that they committed and what punishments they would have to face if they were arrested in today’s time.

History mysteries

In term 1, we learned about the Titanic, the Mary Celeste, the Twins in the tower and the Lost Colony of Roanoke. Even though these topics still remain unsolved historical mysteries today, we studied them and wrote a PEEL paragraph for each of the topics. When we looked at the Titanic, we wrote a conclusion on who was responsible for the sinking of the Titanic. For the Mary Celeste, we had to explain what happened to the boat and where we think it was. For the twins in the tower, we had to write about who we thought killed the princes and why. Finally, for the lost colony of Roanoke, we had to state what we think happened for the colony to disappear.

Workshop/Woodwork

In term one, the first part I did in my class was woodwork. We had to design and make our own clocks out of acrylic. We had the opportunity to decorate our clocks with sticker paper and different pieces of acrylic. We also picked up different skills such as the ability to cut acrylic with a coping saw, using sandpaper to smoothen the edges of the acrylic clock and being able to handle the equipment safely.

Graphics

In term two, my class did graphics next. In graphics, we focused on making pizza boxes out of card. We decorated and wrote in fonts on the pizza boxes, as well as adding elements a real pizza box would have, such as social media logos. In the process of designing the box, we thought about what colours we would use, what our brand name would be and how we could make the pizza box as eye catching as possible.

Food Tech

In term 3, we moved over to food tech. We learned how to cut vegetables and fruits with different techniques, how to wash fruits and vegetables, how to use different equipment, and how to prepare the oven when baking food. So far, we have learned different cutting techniques with a carrot, made fruit smoothies, made Couscous salad, did a grilling experiment, baked pizza toast and made fruit crumble.

Sports

In PE, we did some sports. These sports included:

-Volleyball: When we did volleyball, we practiced some skills that are used in volleyball. I learned how to pass and serve when we focused on volleyball and got better over time.

-Cheer: In cheer, we had to create and perform our own cheer routine I small groups. The team had to carry the flyer in the performance, and the performance had to include some dance too.

-Table Tennis: When we looked at table tennis, I focused on getting my serves right and passing correctly.

Swimming (Block 1)

When we first did swimming, we focused on swimming techniques and strokes. I improved my speed and strokes when swimming and learned how to control my breath better than before.

When we did swimming for the second time, we focused on water polo. When we learned about water polo, I practiced swimming with the ball. I also learned how to pass the ball to my teammates.

Growell

In tutor time, we did Growell one time a week. When we did Growell, we mainly focused on topics related to mental health and learning skills (HPLs and VAAs). Growell helped me understand more about mental health and how you can help someone if they’re feeling down. I feel like Growell is really helpful for making new friends, helping friends and helping yourself.
