1. Digitalisation. by silvia canto

Would you agree with the following quote? Tell us what you think. "Digital technology, when deployed skilfully, equitably and effectively by educators, can fully support the agenda of high quality and inclusive education and training for all learners. It can facilitate more personalised, flexible and student-centred learning, at all phases and stages of education and training. Technology can be a powerful and engaging tool for collaborative and creative learning. It can help learners and educators access, create and share digital content. It can also allow learning to take place beyond the walls of the lecture hall, classroom or workplace, providing more freedom from the constraints of physical location and timetable. Learning can happen in a fully online or a blended mode, at a time, place and pace suited to the needs of the individual learner". When leaving a comment, could you please indicate your institution and country?

In this proper contexte, I agree with the quote. Technology has helped and supported education in many ways and through tough times; moreover it made education go further. We can illustrate the idea with the examples quoted in the quote ("beyond the walls of the lecture hall", "more freedom" from the spatial and time constrains etc.).

Therefore, from another point of view, we can nuance the quote. For example, many studies showed that handwriting helped a lot more with the learning process than the computer does.

To me, there is no method better than the other one for everyone.

I agree with this quote because online learning can really be a way to have a more personalised learning and to develop creativity, and it is good in a way that digital technology developed lastly. However, I think that this development of technologies sometimes forget that some people cannot have access to all of this, due to some personal features, such as a lack of access to Internet in the countryside for instance, so digitalisation is great, but to me sometimes it does not include everyone

It not only offers students the possibility to learn on their own about topics they are really interested about, but also it gives teachers the opportunity to make the materials more appealing and interesting to teenagers' eyes, mostly. Also, it may help with their individual development and be useful when it comes to adapting the materials to their own needs.

I fully agree with the statement that digital technology, when used thoughtfully and equitably by educators, can significantly enhance the quality and inclusivity of education. It enables personalised, flexible, and student-centred learning, empowering learners to engage with content creatively and collaboratively. With technology, learning is no longer confined to physical spaces or rigid schedules, allowing for greater access and opportunities for learners to learn at their own pace, whether in fully online or blended environments. This shift truly supports a more inclusive and adaptable approach to education.

I think that digitalising education is necessary since nowadays technology is more and more advanced. Technology is constantly evolving so education must be kept up to date. The digitalization of education, if implemented thoughtfully, has the potential to make learning more inclusive and effective. However, careful attention must be paid to equity, teacher support, and maintaining a balance with in-person learning experiences.

They bring us the possibility of getting to know other cultures and perspectives, and of supporting our own arguments and opinions by investigating.

However, I also consider that, in a world where technology is present in multiple ways and where kids are spending more and more time online, it is also important to learn in alternative ways so that they don't spend all day staring at screens. If used appropriately, technology can potentially be teachers' best friend!

I agree with the European Commission's opinion. Nowadays, learning about digital technology is not optional but essential. It is a well-known aspect that technology is an imoprtant part of our daily lives and is here to stay.

Therefore, teaching how to use it correctly and effectively, as well as incorporating it into our lessons, is both important and necessary. Moreover, digitalisation brings changes to our lessons, students, and institutions—changes that are sometimes crucial for fostering flexibility and improving our understanding of the subject matter.

I do agree with this quote. Technology can be seen as a very resourceful support to teaching, especially nowadays, in a society where kids or teenagers have grown surrounded by it. Of course, it has the downside of distracting the students because most of the time they use technology is for leisure reasons so they usually relate it to fun, not studying (which, at the same time, can be a good thing because they might also connect fun with studying).

Since technology permeates most spheres in our lives nowadays, I think it wouldn’t make sense to not take advantage of its applicability in learning as well. It has allowed us to access information from all over the world and to be in touch with our teachers after class. It’s also a wonderful tool for receiving extra input in the language that you’re learning.
