Equality is the state of being equal in rights, status, and having equal opportunity. Equity is the state of being fair and impartial. Social justice is fairness as it manifests in society. That includes fairness in healthcare, employment, housing, and more. In a socially-just society, human rights are respected and discrimination is not allowed to flourish.

THE ABBÉ SOCIETY IS AN ORGANIZATION OF DEDICATED WOMEN AT WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY THAT COMMIT THEMSELVES TO THE SERVICE OF OTHERS ON CAMPUS AND THROUGHOUT THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. OUR SOCIETY IS BASED ON THREE IDEALS: FRIENDSHIP, LEADERSHIP, AND CHARACTER. WE HAVE PRIDED OURSELVES ON THESE CHARACTERISTICS SINCE OUR ESTABLISHMENT IN 1959.

Social work

Social work is the profession that I will continue to pursue through the following years. Social work has the main priority of helping others who cannot help themselves or need support in getting them to a healthy, safe, and successful life. This particular group of people is a great example of social work in action as they aid people in a better secure environment.

this establishment of women works to improve society which is the same job that I look to achieve. I wish to be able to impact the community in the ways that they do and or in more/different ways. Our society needs more of these organizations that focus on the well-being of others and being a social worker I have a chance to follow in the footsteps of the abbé society by imitating their actions and influence.

The Abbé Society provides a variety of services to the West Chester community and varies from many different categories. They have received many awards for their involvement in helping others. They are a vital part of the community and have allowed for recreation and development throughout public.

This group is composed of extraordinary women all focused on improving society, that has been established since 1959. they focus on three major ideals including friendship, leadership, and character. Each person has been individually nominated by their ability to express these characteristics.

Expectations of members

Each member has been expected to fulfill a minimum of 12 service projects each semester but each sister completes these projects while also going above was is expected of them. Through weekly projects that promote sustained service and one-time weekend projects that allow them to bond in the most special way, they serve their community & fill up our souls. Service is the most important trait that connects us all together.

Serving meals to homeless at Church of the Holy Trinity
Assisting with the West Chester University Resource Pantry
Cleaning up the streets for the Adopt-A-Block program
Mentoring a child at the Thorncoft Equestrian Center
Coaching a team of young girls for Girls on the Run
Volunteering at Main Line Animal Rescue

My contribution

I will be involved in volunteering for the animals in shelters after completing a mandatory orientation and training located in Chester County. My completing training I will be at the disposal of the leaders of the MLAR. I will be able to participate in dog enrichment, cat enrichment, transport and front desk depending on my desired section.
