Glucagon helps prevent blood sugar from dropping, while insulin stops it from rising too high. excess glucose is made into glycogen by insulin after a heavy meal. During fasting, glycogen is made into glucose by glucagon. Glucagon breaks down glycogen to glucose in the liver. Together, insulin and glucagon help maintain homeostasis, where conditions inside the body hold steady. When a person’s blood sugar is too high, their pancreas secretes more insulin. When their blood sugar levels drop, their pancreas releases glucagon to raise them.

This balance helps provide sufficient energy to the cells while preventing damage that can result from consistently high blood sugar levels.

(a) The main use of Ozempic is for managing type 2 diabetes, but it also has the beneficial side effect of weight loss. The video discusses how Ozempic works by mimicking a hormone which helps promote insulin production, which helps regulate blood sugar levels and insulin production. It also slows down digestion and makes you feel more full for longer, which can lead to weight loss. While Ozempic is not a miracle weight loss drug, it has been shown to be effective for weight management when combined with a healthy diet and exercise routine.

The video also talks about the risks and benefits of Ozempic. The most common side effects are nausea and gastrointestinal issues.

(b) Ozempic mimics a hormone called GLP-1, which is produced in the intestines. GLP-1 has multiple effects throughout the body. Here are some of the effects of Ozempic on these hormones:

In the pancreas, GLP-1 receptors promote the production of insulin, the hormone that lowers blood sugar levels, and reduces the production of glucagon. This is important for people with type 2 diabetes whose bodies are insulin resistant and produce very little insulin of their own.

In the stomach, GLP-1 receptors slow gastric emptying, which means food doesn't move through the digestive system as quickly and you more full for longer. It slows the digestion of food which overall helps with blood sugar spikes and it helps you feel more full for longer so you don't eat as much

Overall, Ozempic helps with blood sugar management and weight loss by amplifying the effects of GLP-1.
