The Giver by

The Giver matches the theme equality and Fairness because the founders of their dwellings made sameness, so no one would feel better than one another, everyone was equal.

How The Giver fits the theme

The theme I chose to read a book about was the meaning of life. I chose the giver because by erasing history, and choosing everyone’s career paths for them you eliminate their meaning of life. By making all their major choices for the people you take away them learning who they really are. Another thing, so many people are who they are because of their history, the history in the family, the history of the world

In The Giver, the founders came to the conclusion that by eliminating any idea that the past, such as previous wars and people had happened and existed, starting new, without the idea of being better or prettier than one another would make for a healthy society.

The book starts off with giving us background about the setting and who the main character is, Jonas, being the main character. In their society they are watched until they're 12, when they reach 12, they receive their jobs. Some of the jobs being a nurse, or a teacher, or a pilot if they fit into certain aspects. Jonas fit into more than one aspect making him the receiver of memories. However, the receiver of memories holds all the history as to what the world used to be. The founders had eliminated color, history, family, everything that would make a person “not equal to another person”

As the story progress's Jonas receives more memories and begins to realize that fairness and equality shouldn't be a thing because then people would not know the feeling of love, the feeling of anger, sadness, joy, all the feelings that make us happy. He learned that if we live our lives without much emotion we are numb, and robots.

So as Jonas receives more and more memories from The Giver, he finds out a way to reverse what the founders had done to them, which was set up a wall that kept everything the same. Him crossing the wall would reverse what the founders had done. Sounds easy, but the walls were far, far away in a place called "Elsewhere".
