Jamestown, June 30, 1863.The army of the Potomac commanded by George E Meade. We have a force of about 104,256 men ready to fight, those puny rebels won’t stand a chance. Their Army of Northern Virginia commanded by their general, Robert E Lee with a force of about
71,000–75,000 Men ready to fight. We will come up from Virginia, then to Maryland and then attack the rebel forces in Gettysburg by July.
We have won many of the battles against the rebel army in the past months, thanks to the Morale of our loved ones and our president Abraham Lincoln.

Baltimore, June 31, 1863.The Army of the Potomac [our army], has advanced into Baltimore, Maryland. The other generals have had a easy battle with the rebel army.If we are able to reach Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, we will be able to ambush the rebels by tomorrow. If the rebels surrender during this battle,we could see a quick finish to this war and most important, the end of slavery. We were walking down the Patapsco River when we were ambushed by a rebel squad! But we were able to take them out quickly, but my friend James he got shot in the leg, but he’ll be fine. Most of my brothers in arms have fallen, but I have tried my best to help them, so for this I was promoted commander. And as much as I want this war to be over, we have to fight against our own brothers, what a shame. And after the war is over, I will be back home in New York, where I have my most precious memories.

Philadelphia, July 1 1863.We have moved far north into the old capital of Philadelphia, in the months before we have freed many slaves from their plantations in the south. One slave who we freed was an abolitionist, and he was leading the slaves into the north, we gave him smoke provisions and they ran off.Shortly after that, we got a telegram that the rebel army was approaching Pittsburgh.Which meant we could get to Gettysburg and attack the rebels tomorrow.Which means we could open a blow in their army. The general of their Army Robert E Lee, has commanded his army well, but the rebels are short on manpower.
And many generals like general Robert Shaw is commanding the first African American regiment which is a big boost to the union. And the better we do the shorter the end will come.

Gettysburg, July 4 1863. We have reached Gettysburg!Yesterday, our forces had met with the Norh Virginia army, we fought for 2 days staright. Our men had put up a good fight but we lost many in the process, and the rebel army lost many men also, but it was worth fighting this battle. The rebels had retreated after the battle, we have gained a lot of territory from the rebel army, but we still have to clear out the rest of the south and free more slaves in the south. And once the war is over so will slavery.

Vicksburg, July 5 1863.Our army was successful in defeating the rebel army at Gettysburg now our ultimate goal is to defeat the rebels in Vicksburg so we can take control of the grand Mississippi River. If we do succeed in capturing the town of Vicksburg, the Mississippi River will be ours, and it will help us defeat the rebels at virginia and the rest of the southeastern states. And in the process, more slaves will be freed, which means more slaves will get to be free and the country will finally be over with this long bloody war.By daylight, we will most likely be landing in Mississippi, and we’ll launch an assault by land and sea, and they won’t know a thing until it’s too late. So, the Army of the Potomac is getting their men ready for the assault while the captain scouts for shore, we get to get some sleep for once.

Vicksburg, July 6 1863. I forgot to mention I was transfered to the army of the Tennessee and that is why we got in a boat to attack the Mississippi, the captain said we were going to reach Mississippi in a couple of hours. For now, I mostly talk with my friends from home and from the army, and I have never been this far away from New York and I’m getting a little homesick, but I like fighting for my country and as well as getting to help others. We have gotten a telegram that there is a fort by Vicksburg, that is armed with rebel soldiers but, after the last battle the rebels are weak and short on manpower, so this might be an easy battle for the Mississippi River.

Mississippi River, July 7 1863. The fort guarded by the rebel army of John C Pemberton surrendered a couple of hours ago, the fort wasn’t heavily guarded and we were able to take out the soldiers with our massive army. Now that we control the Mississippi, we can launch an assault at the rest of the southern states and cripple their army for a final assault most likely happening next year. So for now, the union army has the upper hand in this battle, and by the end of the war we all get to finally go home to our families, and this bloody war will be over.

Ohio River Valley, July 9 1863.We have gone up the Mississippi to the Ohio River, now we can charge down to Virginia and defeat the rest of the rebels in the border states. Many soldiers have been captured during our battles, mostly rebel soldiers and some of our own too, I heard the rebel camps in the south are terrible, people starve, there’s no food, and the soldiers are punished and hanged. Our own soldiers have camps and we capture the soldiers that surrender, we hang them for treason or some we let them free to stay in the north. This might be my last entry for a while, so I have to go to Virginia with my soldiers.
