Writing into the Day:
Closely read Langston Hughes' "Let America Be America Again". Respond to the attached questions on your sheet.

** Upon analysis, look at your own argumentative essay. Proofread, revise, and edit your paper according to your reflection on the following questions:
1) Does my paper have voice, high-level word choice, tone, and meaningful phrases like those found in Hughes' poem?
2) What words can I substitute for more powerful words? Are there sentences that could be better organized or worded to increase the essay's impact and flow?
3) What other elements of Hughes' poem do I need to use in my own writing to increase effectiveness based on my purpose and audience?
**Upon answering these questions and revising your own essay, have 2 other classmates look at the rubric and assess/revise your essay for you.
**Closure- What did you learn or enjoy about reflecting and writing today?

The following is an image portraying a scene from our upcoming novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Here is an excerpt from Stave 1 to help you understand it better: "The chain he drew was clasped about his middle. It was long, and wound about him like a tail; and it was made (for Scrooge observed it closely) of cash-boxes, keys, padlocks, ledgers, deeds, and heavy purses wrought in steel." Analyze this image and answer the questions to the right.

Explain in a detailed response.
3) Now, think about that symbolism you just reflected upon and write in paragraph form OR draw a detailed form of this image to convey what would be on this chain if we were talking about the issues in America that need to be amended or demolished.
