This book is a very powerful dedication to prominent African American figures in history. This book honors the bravery and grit of the African American Community and honors amazing people. History, as it is taught in school, is extremely whitewashed and African Americans are discluded. Beekle became very impatient and decided to embark on an adventure into the real world to find a friend. Once Beekle entered the real world, he was shocked to see how dull everything was and became worried that he would not meet his special friend. In this story, we are introduced to a boy named Marty Preston who finds a runaway dog who has been getting abused by a man named Judd Travers. 
Marty really wants to keep the dog, but his father demands that he returns him to Judd. However, Marty decides to hide Shiloh from Judd and his parents. Judd discovers that Marty has Shiloh and orders that he must be returned when he is recovered. Marty sees Judd shooting a deer out of season and confronts him saying that he will not report the shooting if Marty can work on his farm in exchange for Shiloh. Marty works on Judd’s farm and eventually is given Shiloh. There is a conflict within Marty; he struggles with lying to his parents about having Shiloh. I really enjoyed this book because it kept me invested and I also liked how the book expressed such a deep connection between Marty and Shiloh
