Jane returns to a desolate ruin, the house had been partially destroyed by the fire - but the foundation is still there, and you can still see the door ways etc. IN a way, this symbolises rochester - he has lost his eyesight, which you could say has partially destroyed his life - but the "foundations" of his life are still there - he is still alive, he still has Jane etc. The darkness and mist within the ruins contrasts with the clearness and sunlight when Jane goes outside to find Rochester. This shows that although sadness and despair has fallen upon Thornfield, Jane and Rochesters love will shine through this.

Just after the proposal a tree was struck by lightning, this symbolised the turmoil to come. Jane Eyre in the final scene is framed by the same tree and it has healed as it is growing back but still has a broken branch. This symbolises the relationship between Jane and Rochester. It was broken but has the ability to heal itself although the scars will still be there.

In the scene where Jane is framed by the lightning tree whilst walking up to Rochester, the tree that had framed her showed new growth and foreshadowed the opportunity to come. In this scene there was also a lot of light and hopeful piano music with chirping birds and running water which shows the joy and hopefulness to come in their lives and future relationship.

(Framing) Jane is in a long shot framed by tree limbs as she walks towards Rochester. This shows that the tree, which symbolises Jane and Rochester's relationship, is still closing her in like the walls and windows confined Jane in the castle. This links to the idea of the frame enclosing the doll in the previous scene. This shows that Jane and Rochester's relationship still confines jane, as if she was in a cage.

The high Eb to Bb shows a perfect 5th which is empty and hollow, this is the motif throughout the main violin theme in the movie, and the empty perfect 5ths as the bass lines played as held notes are reflecting Jane's life. It shows that she feels empty without Rochester's love, and also displays lack of freedom - being a female in the Victorian era.

The strong dissonance notes (high F and E maybe) also symbolise the conflict within Jane at this point of time. Jane has not yet found out that Bertha is dead, so thinks that their relationship (her and Rochester) still has obstacles. She has seemingly come to terms with the fact that Rochester is already married, and is content to be his side chick.

The like-classical Beethoven broken chords are consistent but die away is like the 'broken-ness' in the house and Jane's life. We can see this, as the house is burned down, displaying the way in which they may be superficially damaged, but they still have strong foundations.

The silence during Mrs Fairfax's dialogue is actually part John Cage's 4"33 and like 4"33, the producer wants the reader to focus on the background noises aka Mrs Fairfax's dialogues and shuffling of feet (symbolising insecurities and being anxious), and the wind to show 'the winds of change' and wind spreads fire. There is no music during Mrs Fairfax's dialogue to emphasise her inner turmoil.

The music starts after Mrs Fairfax's dialogue as Jane is walking to find Rochester means the tension from the conversation has lifted and light-but-emotional music has continued. This tension has been replaced by their thorough support of each other, even though they have not been physically near each other to figure this out. In a way, they have been humbled by their experiences, which has helped them to fully understand how important it is to love and accept each other.

The fuller chords and double-stops on the violin/viola when Rochester and Jane begin to talk again, which is symbolised by two melodies playing at once. This shows that Jane and Rochester's lives are coming back together, both melodies singing at once. Later on the use of violin (high) and cello (low) is like the balance between the two of them. It also shows how in the new relationship they are both contenders and Mr R is no longer dominant and are now equal.

the castle can represent Rochester throughout the film. At the beginning of the film we can always see Jane behind windows, nearly trapped in the castle, at the same time Jane was trapped and could not leave Rochester.
Also at the beginning of the film the castle is big, strong and imposing just like Rochester, He would present himself strong and imposing. At the end of the film the castle is in ruins, although the base of the castle is still holding up and strong, and yes the castle has been damaged, just like Rochester, but it is still standing.

As Jane approaches Rochester, right before she touches his hands (IMPORTANT: hands) she drops her hat. The removal of the had symbolises a mark of respect and a removal of protection, causing Jane to be more vulnerable as she has lost this protection which she now holds in her hands. However, by dropping the hat (her protection) she is putting all of her trust into Rochester and allowing herself to be completely vulnerable with him, showing her love for Rochester. Right after she drops the hat, she goes in for the PASH!

The doll is a symbolism of innocence, and childhood, and how the fire has cleansed away the sinfulness and everything that is not clean (remember this can be linked to R. and how the fire cleansed him of pride etc.) The way that Jane holds the doll to her shows her own vulnerability. The doll also signals the beginning of a new life (R's entire life has been affected by the fire - old problems such as Bertha that were haunting him were burnt away. Now he has the opportunity to start over).
