A little boy has been abandoned. His mom has died and his dad, though still with him physically, is actually far far away. He could have never seen it coming, never could have seen what his life would come to. All he wanted was to do something nice for his dad, something to make him remember that they’re both still there, something like a beautiful meal. He picked vegetables from their rapidly dying garden, prepared them using his moms old recipe, and placed them on the stove, a stove that, unbeknownst to him, was faulty at times and sent out the occasional unwanted spark. This little spark took with it the last that was left of this boy’s family, their house. So here he is, standing atop the dying vegetables in his yard, watching them all get lost to the ash. his family has been reduced to nothing. What will his dads reaction be? Will this send them deeper into the hole they’ve found themselves in or will it save them, save them by forcing them to start over.

This family gets along like a normal family they all love each other but the father is having an affair with his assistant, and the mother knows and is devastated, but they don't talk about it because of the kids. They are now stuck in this house it's hot and they are sweating because the AC is not working and they just trying to wait patiently for everything to end, watching the news every single minute of the day because there is nothing else to do, and the worst part is that absolutely no one knows what this horrible thing is.

The police had begun their search but the father could not tolerate the wait. He chose to begin his own investigation. He knew his daughter wouldn’t just leave. It’s always been him and her against the world and although lately, they hadn’t spent much time together, he knew she wouldn’t abandon him. He was determined to find her alive, he still holds on to this hope but grows scared and angrier as time goes on. His daughter used to love driving out towards nature. She would take walks to clear her head. The father and his sister had searched the places she would walk through but had found nothing.

In this scene, they were going back home. The father had met with his daughter’s best friend again. This boy revealed to him that she’d once commented she was starting her own world out in the forest. On their way home, they drove through the forest in search of anything. The father noticed a tent in the distance. He immediately told his sister to stop the car and ran out. As he got closer he saw in the distance several other tents. He didn’t know then but he was observing the hideout his daughter had been building for months.

It had been over twelve days, ten hours, and six minutes since Jonathan Daley had even deigned to consider a box of frozen food in the grocery store, let alone pick one up. That alone was a record in itself. Mind you, it was not the frozen food itself that Jonathan's taste buds took particular offense to, nor was it the prerequisite perambulation around the nooks and crannies of the supermarket that Jonathan disliked (quite the contrary, in fact—Jonathan would not be the first to admit an almost voyeuristic fascination with his fellow denizens of the supermarket; watching them scurry and argue; prattling about like erratic rodents as their failed lives shone on display within the confines of marble-white flooring and posters advertising the latest iteration of biochemically enhanced potato chip). The issue was none of those things. Then, Jonathan wondered, what on Earth could it be? What could be the genesis of this distaste, this newfound disgust that had chosen this moment to crown and rear its fully-fledged, ugly head? And why—oh, why—did Jonathan choose to resign himself to it; this invisible specter of gelid, prepackaged familiarity that he could never escape? Jonathan thought about these things as he nabbed a box of frozen green beans, struck by the sameness of them all, and instinctively plopped them into his shopping cart.

In the movie still #1 we see a family sitting in their living room. This family has just gotten home after the parents left work and the kids left school early because they were ordered to go home due to a national emergency drill. Schools, workplaces, and anywhere public people had to immediately evacuate and were instructed to go home and quarantine. This family had to rush home. The kids were so scared on why there was an evacuation and why they had to come home so fast. Meanwhile, the parents are confused and instantly want to know what’s going on. Because they all had to come home fast, they didn’t have time to eat lunch, so the mom makes everyone sandwiches and cookies to try to make the kids feel better. The family decides to eat on the couch while watching TV to watch the news. They turn on the TV and immediately see a “Breaking News” segment. The TV cuts to the President about to make a speech assuming it’s about what's happening. The family sees the President heavily sweating and looking nervous, they immediately knew something wasn’t right. The dad is so stressed that he takes off his blazer because it started to feel too tight. The little boy crosses his fingers hoping everything is okay as the mother holds her daughter squeezing her tight. The President begins to speak.
-Saniyah

They began searching for new hobbies day in and out to keep themselves occupied, when they stumbled upon a shadow puppet class. At first, they just could not get the hang of how to do it, their hands couldn't make the correct shapes. After continuous practice of the bird shadow puppet, they finally get it. In their joy they run outside to show the birds that they are finally one of them since they can make the bird shadow puppet.

I found the shot the director loves, a shot that has such strong dialogue and engages the audience with what is being presented in that scene. It isn't the most outstanding shot but the facial expressions the actors have and the focus of the camera make it great. I couldn't find a specific shot but the trailer of this movie is really good. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2AsIXSh2xo) I think the lighting for every shot was intentional, the placement of objects and focus of the camera is perfect. The angles give a different perspective and guide the audience. Every shot makes the audience feel something and is greatly connected with the theme of the story.

In general, Hitchcock is amazing at using cinematography to build suspense, and I think that this is a prime example of that. By keeping the camera pretty much level with the main character the entire time, the watcher feels the fear of the incoming plane in a similar way to how he does. Suspense is built so perfectly here without needing things like intense music, which is often the case. The close ups of Roger's face also allow the watcher to see his thoughts and how he is processing his situation. Additionally, the camera becomes slightly shaky whenever he is running, which perfectly supports the sense of fear he feels as he runs for his life. This sequence is filmed in such a way that it doesn't even feel like it was filmed, it feels real.

I believe that this scene in Dune has amazing cinematography because almost the entire thing is filmed in close up shots. This technique helps the viewer feel the emotion of the character, Paul. The way the scene cuts between the mother and Paul help us understand in some way she is helping him get through the pain. The dim lighting adds an element of fear and anxiousness to the entire scene, and without it, the scene would have an entirely different feel. When the camera pans from the woman to the needle and keeps a shallow depth of field, it adds a sense of importance and instills anxiety into the viewer. Overall, the whole movie is beautifully filmed, but this specific scene helps us connect with Paul and sets up a lot of the movie with the use of cinematography.

The lighting and colors are perfect in this. I see that She’s lost her innocence and therefore couldn't physically dance the part of the white swan anymore.

Here were introduced to Sardaukar, the emperors personal army. The establishing shot at the beginning helps set the scale, you see hundred, if not thousands of Sardaukar lined up, with ships in the background obscured by the mist. While not much is explained about the Sardaukar, the throat singer gives you the vibe of them being religious fanatics almost, utterly devoted to the Emperor.
You then see shots of the individual Sardaukar getting thumbprints of blood on their faces, with human sacrifices in the background providing rivers of blood. It shows you that you don't want to mess with these people, that they are a formidable force.
I think one thing that this scene does that Dune as a whole does well is how it 1) sets scale, but also 2) obscures this scale a little. In the beginning spice harvesters attacked by the fremen are hidden by clouds of sand, and you can only see their lights and the silhouette. Latter the Beni Gesseratt mother's ship is hidden in darkness, shown only by the landing lights. And here the massive ships are obscured by the rain. This helps make the world of Dune seem alien, the ships are unusual designs, and Denis hides them from us.

Since this is such a big case that they've been assigned to, they are annoyingly excited, while also anxious. They are the type of person who HATES silence, there always has to be someone talking or it feels awkward and uncomfortable. This mixed with the anxiety of being new on the job leads to relentless chatter, much to Cop 2's dismay. Cop 1 is young and has had a fairly sheltered life, they've never experienced anything close to what they'll experience on this case. They'll change drastically throughout this story.

Darryl is a self-righteous English teacher and amateur chef. She delights in posting her creations to Instagram, where her sycophantic friends write generically fawning comments praising her usage of sautéing techniques, or her implementation of Cuban spices to liven up an otherwise languid dish—despite the fact that, even to an untrained eye, the dishes themselves look positively horrid. This theme continues in Darryl's other domain of faux-expertise: the classroom. Despite her rather elementary grasp of grammar and syntax—not to mention her obvious bias against the students who defy and disobey her, of which there are many—Darryl teaches with fervor and passion in the hopes of gaining the fawning, ego-quenching respect from her students that she receives from her Instagram followers. However, she can get irritated quickly...and I mean, quickly.

Aaron is a man with a similarly elephantine ego. A failed artist-turned-hardware store owner, he is dissatisfied with his station in the world, feeling as though he is meant for greater things. He considers himself very witty, and a leading authority on life; he will gladly lecture to anyone who is willing—and, in many cases, not willing—to listen. Underneath this propensity for pretentiousness, though, lies a fragile den of insecurities. He questions many things about himself, from his sexuality to his baldness.

Set design is one of the most important aspect in telling a story, building an in-depth, believable world for the characters to live in is crucial in making a film speak to an audience. One of my favorite examples of this is in Taxi Driver. The mood of the dark side of 70s New York at night sets the stage perfectly for everything that happens to/with the main character Travis. The neon lights, dirty alleys, and signature yellow taxi cabs make Travis fit right in, the world he is in lends itself perfectly to his angst and twisted thoughts. One of my favorite sets from Taxi Driver is Travis' apartment. It's small, undecorated, unorganized, and dirty, all very intentionally. It's clear that the designers knew the character and the story so well, which is crucial in creating the perfect world for everything to take place in.

Set design is one of the most important aspects of creating a film because it builds the world that the characters are supposed to be living in. Without the set, the movie wouldn't be believable or realistic. It sets the tone of the film and draws a certain mood out of the viewer. In my opinion, the film 'Little Women' (2019) has a fascinating set design. Throughout the whole movie, it truly feels like a period piece and there is not one moment where I am thinking that the movie is not. I love that all of the sets are unique in their own ways, from bustling London to the quiet countryside. The set develops a time period that the viewers are not used to in order to tell the story. It places you in a different world and keeps you engaged enough to get lost in the storytelling.

One movie that I believe has great set design is Straight Up. This romantic comedy uses large spaces but puts the characters so close to one another that it makes the settings feel more intimate. In addition to this, leaving these realistic spaces wide open in the back while pushing the characters to the front helps us put our brains into the minds of the characters. The sets are all realistic, which adds to the fact that the story of this movie could realistically happen in the real world.

Set design is extremely important in telling a story. It helps make the story more believable. It gives the audience a visual and helps them connect with the story more. A movie that I think has amazing set design is The Great Gatsby (2013). The Great Gatsby is set in the 20’s and it is four years after the end of the Great War. The movie does a great job showcasing that with the buildings, furniture, architecture, and costumes. The production design reflected an Art Deco style. Geometric forms and bold outlines that Art Deco is known for. My favorite design is the party scene. The bright lights, long stairway, the glitter, and the pool in the middle. It made me want to go to the party because of how astounding and fun it looked. The set design in this whole movie was stunning to me.

The Batman is a movie that builds much of its mood through set design. The set design is dim with lots of black, which is an homage to the movie's film noir inspiration since it styles itself as a bit of a gritty crime caper (mixed with superheroes). Gotham, where the movie takes place, is dark and dirty, with graffitied alleys and subways, and grey foreboding office towers. It's always raining, and much of the movie takes place at night, adding to the sense of mystery and fear. Wayne Manor is very antiquated-looking, and again, filled with dark or grey furniture. Although it looks expensive, it has no warmth to it--it feels cold and unwelcoming, in keeping with the dark mood of the movie. Similarly, the club shown in the movie is underground and dark, with smoky rooms and dim lighting. All of these details are in keeping with the feeling of the story and the film noir-esque mood of the movie.

It connects to that "show don't tell" saying, where the house a family lives in tells us about their traditions and lifestyle even more than dialogue could. I like that it can feel personal to the audience or sometimes be like finding an easter egg. Not everyone will notice everything but when they do it makes the film even better.

I think what makes good editing is both experience and flow. It's important for a film to both look good and make sense to the audience. That's what really sells your story. If a film is cluttered and has a lot of unnecessary cuts, like in Bohemian Rhapsody, it is, in my opinion, poorly edited, and therefore doesn't come across as well to the audience and leaves them with a sense of confusion. Good editing keeps the audience understanding the film without raising any questions to the quality of it.

To me, the best editing is the one you don't even notice or think about. This means it goes well with the type of film. If it is an action film the editing supports that idea. I think that when the meaning of the editing aligns with the purpose of the film, the editing is good. Bad editing happens when you don't put enough thought into what you are doing. When an editor just wants to finish a job and doesn't put in the effort of thinking about the audience the editing will most likely end up being weak.

I think that good editing depends on the project. For some films, the best editing is when you don't even notice it. If the goal of the film is for to feel real, the editing should support that and be barely noticeable. It should make the movie feel like real life, so it should blend in with the story that's being told. On the other hand, there are certain types of films that depend on editing to give the film its full effect. For instance, editing is super important in building suspense, so a lot of super suspenseful films use it to their advantage and make clear editing choices that purposefully shouldn't go unnoticed.

I think good editing works with what the cinematographer has given and puts it together in a coherent way that serves the story. This can look like many different things depending on how you want to pace your movie, or how you want time to function, or the specific feeling a scene needs to give off.
For example the video we watched of Bohemian Rhapsody wasn't coherent because the way they cut it confuses your eye. They make you think it's going to cut to one person but then goes to a completely different person.

As long as the editing flows and incorporates to the plot the film. Making sure the pieces of the plots aren't out of place, have great pacing, and sets the tone. I think it's important to pay attention and look at the smallest details. Small mistakes like not matching the eyelines and noticeable cuts can be bad editing. Lots of times movies can be ruined because of bad editing. One of the worst things is a movie having a great concept and has lots of potential to be ruined because of editing.

In my opinion, good editing, most of the time, is when the viewer doesn't even notice it. In some cases, the purpose of the film is to put an emphasis on editing, which in that case, the editing should still be somewhat seamless. Overall, a well-edited film will tell the story in an understandable and creative way. On the other hand, bad editing occurs when films are choppy, and the viewer becomes confused as to what the story is about. In reality, the debate between good and bad editing correlates with the editors ability to tell a story.
