The theme of The Hate U Give is very broad and open. I would say the main theme of my book is; The amount of racism and inequality in our world is so big that certain situation are weighed out by the larger, higher stereotypical party. So instead of judging people by the stereotypical of their color or race, you should actually take the chance to meet with them and get to know who they really are. Another good point is; Never stop trying, especially not because people tell you too. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and do whats right.

"Friends" connects to the book because Starr (the main character) is connected to her 2 childhood friends yet when they both die, she feels like a part of her is missing. The same thing happens in the show, where all of the friends part their ways yet they each feel a connection inside that will never be left.

I believe that "Stranger Things" connects to the book because in the show Mike goes through some scary things where he feels like he is alone, just like Starr, however, while he is in the middle of the fright he realizes that he actually has people around him to help him through the situation. Same thing with Starr, she is freaked about being the witness but soon enough she realizes that she is not alone.

The unfortunate story of Antwon Rose directly connects to that of the book; where an unarmed, teenage, black boy is shot for absolutely nothing by a white cop. The situation directly relates to that of the book where Khalil is shot dead 3 times after making a sudden move.

Gloria from "Modern Family" also connects to the book in the way being of that she does what is modernly known as code switching. She switches her personalities depending the people she is around at the moment. The main character, Starr does the same thing with her 'hood' life and her 'Williamson Starr' scenarios. She lives her mood and attitude depending on those who are surrounding.

As we all know, "Chicken Little" shows us the struggle of a very judgmental crowd toward a little chick that has done nothing to them, you could say it is unfair. In the same context we can relate this to Starr and Khalil, who are both publicly humiliated due to their color and/or race for absolutely no real reason at all.

''The Outsiders'' connects to The Hate U Give because in The Outsiders we witness the death of Johnny which directly affects everyone that had even just heard of him through the news.

''Insatiable'' is a show where the main character gets in a legal problem and has to testify in court; which is exactly how the book relates to it because in the book we see Starr having to talk to the police during multiple occasions and then finally in front of the jury. All because she was the witness of her friend's death.

In this show we see betrayal of friendships; just like in the situation of Starr where we see one of her best friends turn against her when she especially needed her support.

Throughout all of the first season of ''13 Reason Why'' we encounter the depressing emotions that Hannah goes through due to her classmates which leads to her death. In some way, you could say this relates to Starr and her emotions towards how everyone is treating her and how she treats them due to Khalil's death. However, even though it is very depressing to her, she manages to overcome it in some way from the help of some other important people of her life.

"Funny how it works with white kids though. It’s dope to be black until it’s hard to be black." -page 11 (online version)
This quote is evidence for my theme because it is showing the stereotypical that shines in white kids towards the black. They want to be there and be them while its fun and no racism or stereotypical is around but once the hard stuff hits, they run and change side and quickly become one of those against them.

''Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong . The key is to never stop doing right ." -page 154
This quote supports my theme because it shows that you have to always try your best to do what is right. Sometimes things won't go right but there is always a way to make it through and do what is right even though the world may say otherwise. It is actually a really miningful quote.

''That’s the hate they’re giving us , baby , a system designed against us . That’s Thug Life .''
This quote shows the difficulty that the blacks go through due to all the racism and all the stereotypical. It support my theme in this exact way showing that sometimes you can't change the way they look at you because they have been blinded by a system of lies showed to them by others, yet they don't take the time to even check if they are real. And even though this sound so brutally wrong it is
