'The late fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin once said in one of her essays on Fantasy and Science Fiction “The use of imaginative fiction is to deepen your understanding of your world, and your fellow men, and your own feelings, and your destiny."'

This quote demonstrates the SLO of deliberate composing choices. I started my podcast with a quote from a well-established fantasy author to immediately establish authority alongside the information I was going to present.

'Several of the most significant fantasy authors of all time have taken great inspiration from Christianity. Tolkien, who was a devout Catholic, once said “The Lord of the Rings is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision. That is why I have not put in, or have cut out practically all references to anything like 'religion,' to cults or practices, in the imaginary world. For the religious element is absorbed into the story and symbolism.”'

This quote demonstrates the SLO of being able to think critically through readings. I used the quote to advance my argument that western fantasy literature has a large Christian influence. The quote may not directly say it, but The Lord of the Rings series is perhaps the most influential fantasy series of all time. Since it is a Christian story, it should demonstrate how much influence Christianity has over fantasy literature.
