Corona Virus and My Newts!

This is a true story about me and my newts. It takes place in Seattle in the spring of 2020 the year of the pandemic. My name is Kenney Keever and I have two newts by the names of Pickles One and Pickles Two.  These newts, although small and confined to a fishbowl, give me calm vibes during this crazy time of the coronavirus. 
The craziness of coronavirus, or more commonly called COVID-19, all started when my grandma was about  to visit. My mom would not stop cleaning because she did not want my grandma to get sick or worse yet, get covid -19. I got worried and thought maybe my grandma should not come but i love her a lot so she still came and had to leave because she was a bit worried that the airport would shut down and she left in a hurry. I went upstairs in my room and looked at my newt tank. I saw them just swimming not cleaning just swimming around I found it very calming. I just sat and watched them seem like they have a simple life and for 1 moment I wanted to be a newt. 
The next day I went to school and when I went to my school I heard rumors that there wouldn't be anymore school due to COVID-19.   I took a deep breath in then I went to one of my friends and asked how many days we do not have school. It was closed for two weeks. We went to the YMCA the next day. We did not have school but I tried to get my mom not to go, but at the time people were still not taking the covid-19 that seriously, but I will just tell you now we should have not done that. I also had a sleepover with my friend, which I shouldn't have done because three days later Governor Inslee ordered a shelter in place (meaning we can't go outside). I am getting overwhelmed because we can't see our friends and we have to stay 6 feet away from everyone because the sickness can travel through the air. AHHHHHH!  However, once again, I found myself looking at my newt tank. I wonder if they even know what's going on? At the same time, all they have is a new tank and I'm complaining that I have to stay inside all day.  Their tank is so small and my house is probably a mansion for them.   It makes me feel a little better, appreciating my house situation versus my newts. 
Well,  it has now been a few weeks that we have been in quarantine, and it is hard at times, but  we're fine. What I want you guys to know is this... it helps to have something that isn’t directly part of the problem, like my newts. I can just sit, look in my newts’ tank, and become calm.  They help me to appreciate that things are not that bad.  Plus, watching them glide through the water hour after hour seems so simple, and so wonderful!  I am glad that I have something comforting during this Corona Time.  Some people may have  a teddy bear to hold, others may have yoga to do, for me it’s watching and zoning in on my newts.

I honestly feel like my life isn't going to be different I think there is only a few things though that is making life different. One thing is I can't hang out with my friends on days that I have school because everyone has to stay home, which is kind of weird because I am so used to going to school and seeing my friends. That is one thing that will make my life different, but  another thing is that I can't get to go and travel to visit my family in Guam.

My daughter chews on the handle of the bright orange tooth brush. I wonder if she thinks she is brushing her teeth. I often wonder what is going through her little head, mostly when she intentionally rips up a box or takes a 🤬 out of her alphabet puzzle piece. The weirdest part is when she says "Uh Oh" clearly you knew what you were doing and had the audacity to say "Uh Oh" afterwards. Sometimes I sit on the little wooden chair while I have meetings, no idea why, but they are oddly comfortable. I can't stand the latte cup toddler toy, why would a toddler need to emulate drinking coffee? Why did I buy that for her? Wait, did I buy that? I remember when I could just go to the store and buy stuff, wow what a distant memory now. I wonder if the world will ever get back to normal? Will I get to go to IKEA and buy unnecessary plush pillows for the couch? Will I get to wear my weirdly bulky snow boots to school and get judged? These are the random things I get to think about at home. When I look at my notebook I see the colors gold and gray. My notebook is a spiral notebook. I use this for math I can see pen ink that bleeds threw the paper. When I first glance at my desk I see that it is white and black with papers, notebooks, pencils, and pens everywhere. There is also a shelf next to my desk. My pencil doesn’t look like a regular pencil it has orange and yellow stripes. The eraser is pink like most erasers though. My computer is an Apple computer the keys are black my computer is gray/silver and it is a MacBook Pro. Lastly my pens, I have a pink,green,black,blue,and red ink pens. The blue and white painting reminds me of a mirror because it's so shiny you can see yourself in it! the neon flamingo light is my dad's, I somewhat  like it but i ignore when he turns it on, i think it's a waist of power. I personally believe that everyone should be at protests, but only peaceful ones. As you know many peaceful protests suddenly turn violent, which is why you still be careful and aware of your surroundings. Staying alert is the key to protesting safely. As you can see from that photo, you should stay away from the police, because they do not seem to care who they hit with their, teargas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets. Do not forget that you are in the middle of the street with other people and that some drivers are still attempting to get through the people and get their car, and themselves, safely away from protesters. I absolutely believe that the Seattle Police department is greatly over funded. Instead of over funding the police department the city could have sent that money to education and early learning, civil rights, and sustainability and environment. Civil rights funding is already under funded, and needs to be funded millions more. I don't think we should de-fund the police because some of them are innocent. I think the police is over-funded and we can take some of the over-fund and put it into programs that help people that are struggling and programs that focus on people that need help or are starving. For example, my mom pays monthly for an organisation that helps people suffering, our house, education, and much more. The police that are racist and did a bad deed should be acknoleged for that but I don't think we should de-fund the police stations because some police in the same department are not racist while other are. there is TOO much going on right now. I have seen signs that say,"ACAB" which means,"all police are bad." And that is just not true, So if a black police is walking down the street all of a sudden they are bad???
