My biggest take away after reviewing the resources on burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma is that they all build on each other if you do not take the time necessary to prevent or recover from one. I found it interesting that each component included burnout it in and that counselors can take on the depression of their clients if they do not take time to practice self-care.

Self-care is important for everyone, but it is especially important for those in a helping profession. If you are not taking the time to take care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being, it will be extremely challenging to help others who are in need of your best.

One way I can practice self-care is through taking time to ensure that I give myself 10-20 minutes of "me time". As a wife, mom, educator, and grad student, I find it hard to do things for myself at times. I will be intentional with dedicating a portion of my evenings to myself and practicing mindfulness in those moments.
