During the course I have used many different things to adapt and produce my movie trailer, including software and hardware. Majority of the hardware used I already had a basic understanding of for example, the camera and tripod. However I feel a lot of my newly developed skills, techniques and knowledge come from the use of the software.

The main software used was IMovie, IMovie is a video editing software installed on the computer, it allows the user to create short films using footage taken and uploaded, using iTunes and garage band as well as combining with multiple other software to help improve the functionality of IMovie.

Techniques I learned from the software mentioned (IMovie) that I didn't know before hand:

Trim.
this means cutting out unwanted footage and making clips smaller, to decrease the length of the product.

Manipulate in terms of speed.
meaning slowing down or speeding up the footage recorded, this means that effects and ambiences can be created, also fitting the footage to certain soundtracks.

Alter volume, pitch and tempo of the sounds.
this can be done to mute certain background noise but enhance script speech.

Completely replace the sound.
this is helpful when lots of background noise can be heard, removing It and replacing it with a soundtrack or pre recorded sound.

These techniques helped to alter the footage and use the best of the footage or small amounts of one clip, then to be able to alter the speed of the clip to best fit the music playing over the top of the footage. Creating a more professional flowing product.

Skills I learnt during the production of my product were mainly involved around the planning aspects of the media work, learning to use time effectively and be pre organised in when and where we was shooting and how the footage would be used. Time management is a very useful skill when producing a product like this as deadlines are constantly getting closer and closer, through the use of careful forward planning, everything can be completed and re-edited before deadlines maximising marks.

Throughout the preliminary activity my knowledge has greatly expanded:

in terms of shot types and when to use them, for example using a close up tracking shot creates more of a claustrophobic shot for the audience and helps to portray what the character is feeling as they move etc.

what time of day to shoot what scene, this helps to create moods and feelings around the scene for example shooting a chase scene in the night is more scary and eerie than shooting it in the day, this is due to the natural unnerving people have when in the dark making the footage more relatable.

my understanding of time and tempo in conjunction with the speed of the footage. This is particularly helpful as having the wrong speed of footage with the wrong music creates a stupid effect that doesn't create the desired mood.
