Self-reliance is its aversion. It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs."  This quote is similar to a lyric In Alicia Keys' song 'This girl is on fire' in which she says "  Everybody stares as she goes by
'Cause they can see the flame that's in her eyes
Watch her when she's lightin' up the night
Nobody knows that she's a lonely girl
And it's a lonely world
But she gon' let it burn, baby, burn, baby".  These quotes are both similar because Emerson is claiming that society wants conformity, it yearns for it's people to work in harmony, if one person eats then all do, if one person starves then all do. This Idea should not be accepted and instead people should conform to their own standards in which they feed when needed and succeed above those who don't work as hard as them. This is seen is Alicia's lyric where she is standing out from the crowd, quieter than others, and everyone is looking at her because she has a flame that is unique to only her. Both quotes claim that being different and relying on oneself is the key to being happy and successful in a conformed society

Not only was he an artistic genius, but he was a great inventor, inenting items such as the parachute, and a great scientist as he made many great marks in neuroanatomy. But, he was greatly misunderstood at the time. Unlike today where society hold him on a pedestal because of his ideas, during his lifetime he was considered to be gay, dyslexic, and was highly criticized due to his unlikely ideas. He was found dead in a bus in frozen weather which is mostly due to the fact that going out in his trip he was able to survive on berries and natural shelter, thinking he was almost too self resilient.
