It is knowing how to have good manners on the web and how to express them. Ultimately, netiquette is important because the internet is non-verbal.

Students must know that communicating online isn't always as clear as speaking to someone in person. They also must be informed that not expressing proper netiquette has a lot of possible consequences. If educators begin demonstrating this early on, students will be aware with how to handle poor netiquette situations in the future.

The internet is much bigger than it has ever been in the past. Many children revolve their lives around the internet. Since children are using the internet at such a young age, it is good for them to know what netiquette is and why it is important. Teachers should take the time to teach this to their students. I found that there are many rules that go along with netiquette and that are not difficult to follow. If students are made aware of what the rules are, there will be a better chance that they will follow them.

I feel as a future educator it is our job to make sure our students know what their rights are over the internet. I think that digital law is a very important component under legal issues. I always hear about these issues on the news, and the only way to try and put a stop to it is by teaching students about it. Kids today are surrounded by electronics and if no one has taught them about digital law, they are probably breaking the law. I also think that CIPA is important because it blocks students from viewing inappropriate content.

As a result, students must be informed on what is taking it too far on the internet. Students should be told that it is very easy to break the digital law without realizing it. Additionally, children should be educated on the consequences of intentionally breaking the law such as hacking and identity theft. CIPA is an effective way to ensure that students are behaving appropriately online at school, however it must be embedded that good behavior should be executed all of the time.

I never realized how important teaching netiquette and digital law in the classroom was. When I was in school, I remember learning about cyberbullying, but I certainly never heard the term "netiquette". Although this may have been fine then, it is not now because technology is only having a bigger impact on people's lives each and every day. As a future teacher, I will ensure that my students are practicing good netiquette and that they know the consequences if they do not. Further, I want my students to really think about what they are posting and how it can negatively effect others. On the other hand, I also want my students to understand that they can share insightful ideas that can actually hinder learning for other individuals.

CIPA has a direct relationship to schools and children. The school is given the right to block inappropriate matter on the internet. This allows for the school to provide a safe environment for students to search for information while in school.

The internet is full of information that can be very helpful to a students education. On the other hand, there is also a lot of aspects of the internet that are harmful to children. This is why children need to be made aware of the negative consequences of breaking digital law. Another aspect of this is the fact that some children may not even know that what they are doing on the internet at home is inappropriate of wrong. For example, streaming an online movie, or illegally downloading music. By teaching children what breaking the law is online is will help them be aware of what they are doing to make the internet a safe environment for for everyone.

An effective way to help students understand legal issues on the internet is to incorporate it into one of children favorite school games; around the world.
For the lesson, the teacher would give a brief presentation on what legal issues are and all of the consequences of acting in an inappropriate way on the internet. Once the teacher has given a short overview the teacher will ask the class a series of scenarios and ask the students how they wound handle a situation.

An example of this would be
"Is downloading free music an example of breaking digital law?"

If the question answered the question correctly they move on to the next student.

Prior to this project I had no idea what Netiquette and digital law was or how much of an impact it could have in a school setting. While researching the topic I came across different aspects on this topic that I had no idea about. For example, I always use caps when I am talking on the internet or texting. I never imagined that people would take that as me yelling or being angry. This not only taught me that I knew little about the topic but it also showed me that a lot of people probably know little about the topic. After this project I know what an emphasis I need to make on the different aspects of acting on the internet and what the consequences are for doing inappropriate things on the internet. By showing kids at a young age what can happen, hopefully, it will decrease the amount of cyber bullying and there will be an increased amount of respect towards other peoples perspectives on the internet.
