Just this week my sons began school through virtual learning. My youngest, a 5th grader, was asked to walk around the house and take pictures of different forms of energy sources. He walked around documenting his findings and then had to present them to the class via Teams.

My youngest son just recently learned how to swim. We explained to him what to do while he was in the water. We had him watch a video on how to kick to help him but it took him to be in the water to really learn what it took to stay afloat.

Virtual learning is requiring almost all teachers to reflect on what works and what doesn't. They have had to change plans for my youngest a few times and reconstruct the way the lessons are taught.

When my oldest was struggling with Algebra the teacher sat with him and discussed options with him. She wanted to make sure he didn't fall behind so she used different tools and resources to help him since the ones she was teaching with weren't helping.

Since Covid I have witnessed my husband work from home. His job requires a lot of collaborative work. It consists of many ideas being thrown around by everyone on his team and then bringing them to life.

We purchased a video game for my youngest on his birthday last week. This video game requires multiple players to collaborate and cooperate. It took us about 2 hours to learn how to play together and pass on to the next level.

Algebra is one of the most difficult subjects to explain to your child why it is useful and how it will be applied for them throughout life.

My oldest just learned to mow the lawn. He was very hesitant to learn how to do it because to him it was not a skill he was going to need to succeed in life. Right now he is at the neighbors house getting paid to do it.

Each day was built around a task to help him learn the new technology and new techniques. It was also designed to teach them how to be independent workers.

We have not left the house much since this pandemic hit. When we are required to leave our house we wear masks. We have had to learn how to breathe in one so that we can remain safe and keep others around us safe as well.
