In our school the older students read to the younger pupils, once a week in the school library. We use special notebooks for dyslexic students.

In Primary school Kobarid we started a project to motivate 1st grade to read every day. A kid from another class (from 2nd till 5th grade) listens a kid from the 1st grade reading (a short text or some words). The older ones have a card were they writte the date and the name of the kids they helped... At the end they will get a small present.

One of the activities that we have always developed in Reading Week, because it is very successful, is "Reading in several languages" in which you are invited to read the students from other countries, as well as students and teachers who volunteer to read in several languages . In the end, we ended the meeting with a debate on the importance of foreign language mastery today.In this photo the reader is an African student and next to her are students from Costa Rica, Ukraine, Romanians, Moroccans, others.

Reading is one of the most important activities to develop imagination and sensitivity. It is through contact with the book that young people acquire vocabulary and knowledge to make their own reading of the world. It is in this sense, to speak in the communicative competence of the young person, from the oral language and establish the bridge to the written production and to the several areas of knowledge.
With reading, the borders of our world are broken and we cross other continents, we relive the past and we travel to the future and we interact with several authors that awaken in the young the creativity and the artistic component.
Effectively, reading promotes creation and imagination. Reading allows new visions of the world and transforms young people into critical citizens with ethical values, in constant growth.
Learning to read is a progressive process in which young people experience experiences and build their own.
The act of reading is beyond the book, which translates into someone who understands what he reads, establishes closeness, path and encounter / disagreement that begins to be part of daily life and is the promoter of many magical moments, life lighter and sweet.
Last but not least, it is worth mentioning the importance of School Libraries that contribute decisively to promoting / encouraging the reading through diverse activities that lead young people to acquire a taste for reading. In reality, having a dynamic and interventional librarian, as we now find in many Portuguese schools, allows us to train the future citizens with diverse / deep knowledge, making them active and participative, with argumentative power and critical spirit.

I am working in a project with some students that like to read. The idea is to sit for 45 min in the library together reading a book. And for some minutes we talk about the book we are reading to the others. This way we are reading one book and getting to know another ... the students like this little chat. Our library teacher still offers us a slice of cake and some tea! Yummy - reading is tasteful!

Students often enjoy listening to read. In the Reading Week, and not only, I usually organize in the Library "Reading Wheels" in which all the participants are invited to read, individually or in pairs. In these sessions, everyone reads: students, teachers, parents, guardians, elements of public libraries, among other elements. A theme is suggested, according to the ephemeris of the occasion, for example, and everyone presents, reads, and explains what they wish to justify the reason for their choice. It works great !!!

I'm proud of all teachers here! All of you encouraging students to reading in different ways! Reading is important for this generations. Without reading people can't exist! Young people have problems with reading, they think reading is boring. So our mission is step by step to make some activities encouraging to reading. I still try to do it!:) I still look for new events, methods which help me to organize interesting reading activities. Examples:
1. Work on picture books. Do you know any picture book creators? http://culture.pl/en/artist/iwona-chmielewska
2. My older students every week reading books to child. They are volunteers and reading to children by older colleagues is more important than reading by teachers!:)
3. World Book Day - 23th April- I organize regional competition in 3 categories: writting, painting, digital. Pupils show in different ways favourite books.
4. Lessons based on kinds of books:
Go to the class with box of books. Pupils make choice unknown books and we make together exercises:
1. What about is book? Look at the cover and read the title. Tell us your ideas about book's subject.
2. First sentence is most important for readers. Read and write on paper .
3. Open the books on favourite page. Read first paragraph and write one sentence which you like most. (ex: beacuse you feel like in this sentence, it is about your emotion, this is motto of your day,...). Who wants to read it on class forum?
4. Open the book on the page - your birthday day and read it! Feel that the author/ character talk to you. Write 3, 5 new words, words wich you don't understand. Ask your collegues or teacher what does it mean?
5. Open the book at least page and choice one sentence you want to dedicate to somebody (collegue, friend, parents, girlfriend, teacher...)
6. Give the book to person sit on the right ...
YOU can promote many books thanks to this creative exercises. Pupils need to feel free choosing books and they need to feel the book is special for them! Write your comments about my idea! I made some lessons based on this script and most of these books pupils borrowed.

Reading Week is one of the activities that, during the school year, has the greatest impact at the Palmela Secondary School. Her program comes from a set of activities that I propose (as a teacher librarian) and some, on proposal of other teachers. This year, we have followed the motto proposed "Liberate the reader that is in you", and diverse initiatives have been developed, always in an attempt to raise students' literacy levels and to foster the celebration of reading and reading pleasure.
Different activities were developed, among which we highlight: short stories sessions, lectures with writers, literary sessions, colloquiums, reading wheels, reading mini-marathons, reading in several languages and, not least, narration sessions, articulated with the respective illustration.
The various actions, which took place during Reading Week, involved pupils and teachers from the different teaching cycles, as well as external elements, with the intention of making this event something different and original.
In total, 538 students participated in the Week of Reading: 482 students; 49 teachers and 7 guests.

One of the activities that was very successful was the narration of stories, by the storyteller Maria Rouco. This activity was destined to the students of professional education of Support to the Childhood and other students of Basic Education. We read a book "Nature-Year circle" which is animated by short videos that come to life readers on smart devices(by using apps). Small audience, including children, adults - everyone in this book can find their favorite story, message, photo or illustration.
