Opened in 1972, OHS has a strong sense of tradition and just recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. 

Oakland High School serves approximately 1,965 students and has approximately 145 faculty members. The school serves students from eastern Murfreesboro and those from communities such as Lascassas, Milton, and Kittrell. OHS is a choice school also serving many students on a zone waiver for the International Baccalaureate program and Mechatronics program through Motlow State Community College.

The Rutherford County Commission recently voted to fund a renovation project which will enclose the campus in one building and add a new auditorium, art classrooms, and several other features. OHS has a partnership with Motlow State Community College to provide dual enrollment courses and an A.A.S. in Mechatronics. This past year, OHS was able to secure mobile surveillance towers and a mobile command center from local law enforcement for all home football games. OHS has had openings in Spanish, history, math, and science almost the entire school year. Some teachers have left mid year for different careers or transferred to a different school in a different district or state. 

To combat this issue, many teachers have agreed to take on an extended contract giving up one of their planning periods to teach another section of a class. Many of these teachers are teaching a subject outside of their content area. At one point, there was a math teacher teaching theater. However, with the continued efflux of teachers extended contracts do not seem sustainable. Many teachers that took on teaching an extra section have stated that they regret it and do not plan to do it again. 

Mr. Marshall, the principal at OHS, has reached out to different stakeholders in an effort to brainstorm ways to draw teachers to teach at the school. In recent years, it seems that a lot of the new hires are first year teachers from out of state. We also have monthly in-person faculty meetings. Teachers receive email updates from administration on an as needed basis.

These students are in charge of creating and producing the daily announcements and cover athletic events such as football, basketball, and soccer.
