Think of this, the average modern day teen spends almost half of his school day looking at a screen whereas you should be sleeping for about that same amount of that time, destroying your whole sleeping schedule. Teens today are focused mainly on electrical devices such as their phones and also playing video games all day long; losing many hours of their life each and every day. According to the scope article, "Are you a screen addict?" it states that too many hours on devices and little sleep can lead to many things such as getting worse grades, depression, or becoming obese.

Overall the technology we use all the time hurts us all in many ways. A couple of ways in which technology hurts us is that it makes us get lower grades, depression, and makes some of us obese. In order to fix this we have to stop using a lot of technology and go outside our house at least once every day to socialize/do something productive. If we were to do that it would help us with our health and research online also shows that with more physical activity you’re less likely to be depressed and your brain functioning level becomes much higher, helping you learn more in class.

One third of children are becoming obese because they are spending like 7-10 hours watching television, playing video games, and browsing the internet. Children spend more time looking at a screen rather than going outside running around and burning off energy. Also if you add that kids snack while looking at their devices, they will eventually gain weight. If children have a television in their bedroom then they are more likely to gain more weight. This can also decrease the amount of seep needed for a child You can limit the amount of screen time to 2 hours max. Also force them to go outside instead of being inside the house all the time.

The world of social take a mental toll of people, it also takes an emotional as well it states in “Negative, positive effects of excessive social media use on teens studied”. Social media has been linked to young people getting less sleep, and getting increased feelings of worry and depression. Most people who post pictures on social media edit the pictures to make them look perfect, and when a young teen/person sees the picture it makes them feel like they’re not good enough or makes them feel fat and ugly. Since social media is everywhere, anyone can find an embarrassing picture of you and show to others to make fun of you which causes teens to feel sad and left out which could lead to depression. Depression isn’t just being sad, depression is being unable to feel happiness what so ever and one of the main causes of depression in teens is social media because, the internet is everywhere and once you post something online it stays on the internet forever.

The average teenager spends more than 53 hours a week in front of a screen (nearly eight hours everyday) which is more time than they spend at school it explains in “Are You a Screen Addict?”. Studies show that teens who spend more than 16 hours a day in front of a screen are much more likely to get lower grades. One of the reasons is teens stay up all night on their phones, tablets, computer, ect instead of sleeping, which doesn’t give their brain any time to rest so it can’t take in new information. Some teens even use their phones during class instead of listening to their teacher so they’re basically not learning anything. Teens spend of all their time on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, ect talking to their friends or just messing around instead of studying or doing homework and that’s why social media lowers teens grades.
