I love to work with children and always knew this was the population I aspired to work with. My current field instructor is very positive that I will be hired and be a great asset to LAUSD, which is very encouraging. I also plan to gain hours towards licensure to become a LCSW, and possibly my own private practice one day. (We'll see where life takes me)

I plan to travel more and hope to visit a new country as my graduation gift to myself. Lastly, I hope and look forward to staying connected to my colleagues, especially those that have turned friends. :)

However, I've always had a dream of creating a center that provides both child care and wrap around services to families within the Santa Ana community. Ideally, my fiancé and I would be providing child care, therapeutic services, and connecting them to resources -- kind of like a one stop shop making such services easily accessable to families in Santa Ana. But, that's years from now lol. 
On another note, I had originally planned to have my wedding immediately after graduation but, as we got into the semester I realized that I WAS CRAZY with the amount of stress JUST from school. So, we decided to postpone it. Thus, I plan to re-start wedding planning. Were hoping for June - August 2023 :)

I am not sure what school district yet, but hopefully somewhere near the mountains where I can breathe fresh air and take nature walks. I will take the summer to settle into a new environment and apartment while taking some camping trips along the way! As I start this new part of my career, I hope to gain my license to open more doors of opportunities. I will take my summers to pursue international social work and personal trips. Down the line, I would love to co-host retreats for women to feel more embodied, loved and worthy personally and professionally. I imagine this including mindful movement like dancing and yoga. 

As I write about what is to come next year, nerves arise. There is a lot that is unknown. The relationships I have made in this grad program make me feel hopeful for not just my social work career, but the social work field that is gaining so many incredible people. I attended a 4-year college right after HS then now completing this grad program plus dealing with the pandemic, I am tired lol. In terms of my career path, I realized that providing direct therapy services is not for me. I would like to explore other roles/positions within the school settings or in other places where I will still be able to work with students, especially I will have my PPSC when I graduate. I am still trying to figure out whether that is where I see myself long term but I am a CalSWEC stipend student and I am enjoying my internship there so  getting employment there is my short term goal. I have noticed that many students often face various challenges and do not have the support needed to help them achieve their goals. I have also reflected on the lack of mental health access at the schools within my community especially after the tragedy in Santa Clarita two years ago. I love working with children and feel as though I'm truly able to connect with them. I plan to gain hours towards licensure to become a LCSW. Somewhere down the road, I want to create parenting classes from birth through adolescence where developmental stages are taught and how to appropriately deal with children's' behaviors for each life stage.

I am excited to support my husband (as he has supported me) when he goes back to school and gets his MSW to continue his career in medical social work.
 I am hoping to go on my first international trip this summer, but flexible due to Covid and $. I finally realized that I don't enjoy providing therapy this year, so I'm looking for any job that doesn't involve that. DCFS sounds extremely difficult to work at, but the pay/benefit is pretty competitive for having just an MSW so that's how I came to that decision. I'd like to eventually work in a hospital or school setting, but I don't think I'll be a competitive applicant fresh out of grad school so I'm planning to cut my teeth at DCFS to get experience. I'll still apply to school/hospital-based jobs but I'm not expecting to get hired. If I don't get into DCFS/hospital/school, I'll consider getting a job as a clinician to grind out my LCSW and move out of direct practice ASAP afterwards. I'm expecting the LCSW to take me around 3 years so I think I can handle being miserable as long as I know that I'll be leaving direct practice

Before all of this though, I plan to go back home to Las Vegas, NV and visit my family to focus on my own mental health.

I will spend some time before starting my career attending music festivals, traveling, and enjoying my time post-school and before becoming a real adult. 
I plan on becoming licensed at some point but have heard that it can be difficult to do as a DCFS worker. I am hoping to eventually be an LCSW and do more clinical work and potentially open an office with my MFT and LCSW pals.
