While Hitler took control of Germany and formed a military alliance with Japan, most Americans still felt impartial and safe from war in the far off countries. It was easy to tell that Hitler wanted to take over all of Europe, and probably the planet, by his actions, yet the United States did not feel the need to engage in a full-out war. It took a devastating attack on Pearl Harbor and thousands of deaths for us to realize that World War II was coming for the United States. Today, we need to be alert as a nation, and realize when we need to get involved in foreign affairs to stop evil in its tracks before something like Pearl Harbor happens again. We also need to keep in mind when to keep our distance, however; sometimes, our presence can do more harm than good. Nevertheless, whether they were prepared or not, the attack came, and I do not believe that every citizen was prepared for disaster. Therefore, we can learn from this attack that it is important to ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP supply (food, tent for shelter, water, flashlight for light, etc) in case of natural disasters or other disasters. Otherwise,  disaster could be even more disastrous.

In addition, I agree with Connor's comment. Our country should have been more aware of the rise of Hitler in Germany, and how disastrous it would be if a person like him got into a position of power. However, despite the U.S. knowing about Hitler somewhat, we decided to ignore the activities of other countries, which was our BIGGEST MISTAKE. I was able to see the remnants of the Pearl Harbor attack still there. I was able to touch the half-submerged, rusted USS Arizona. I could see models in a museum of both American and Japanese planes. I was able to walk on battleships, no longer in service, that had survived the attack.
