He was very racist, and criticized almost everything FDR did with the African Americans and was also against his New Deal Act. He especially disliked FDR's decision to balance African Americans pay with the average pay for whites. He was a supporter in the Populist community, supporting farmers in rural areas. Though, he wanted to help and care for his state, and was seen as a very important figure in Georgia in his time. Citizens had mixed emotions about him around the country, either liking him, or disliking him. He was for white supremacy, grew up on a farm, and had many office positions.

He worked hard to appeal to the farmers but in his attempts, also managed to be racist. He tried to keep the New Deal from spreading in GA, because he wanted his ideas, not the president's. Instead of using his words like a decent human being, he used violence to keep whites in power. He also might have been involved in a lynching of two black couples. Roosevelt was a very popular president and when Talmadge went against him, a lot of people didn't like that. But, Talmadge did have a lot of supporters in Georgia considering he was elected for governor four times. Eugene Talmadge may have been so popular in Georgia because of his support of white supremacy and his support of farmers. Once Talmadge noticed his popularity with the farmers, he worked to gain their loyalty when it came time to vote. Because of this, Talmadge had many government jobs and opportunities. To Talmadge, earning the loyalty of the farmers was so important because if he earned the votes of people in rural areas, he was more likely to win due to the county unit system.

The reason why he was considered a controversial figure was due to his radical ideas and beliefs. One these beliefs was his opposing ideas of both FDR and his New Deal plan. The state legislature constantly tried to undermine him and his actions. His view on African Americans made him a white supremacist. Then again, the South itself was still racist at the time. Talmadge's popularity was able to get him many prosperous jobs and positions in government

He was not well liked outside of rural areas because he hated the new deal programs. Some saw him as a threat to New Deal Programs. Since he was very liked in rural areas, he was elected.
2- Only whites in rural areas like Eugene. Infact Eugene was very racist (another reason pin eople didn't like him). The way h is believed to be by using KKK violence. Some believe he murdered people in order to be voted to office. On the day of election African Americans woke up with little coffins at their doorsteps, and soon before the election, posters were hung of African American churches, schools, etc. saying that the first black to vote would die.

Therfore, I beleive that Eugene Talmadge was a horrible person who should not have been in office.

He is a racist person and he believes that he is right. When he attempted to fire two University System administrators for advocating for integrated public schools, the Board of Regents refused, he dismissed all of them and replaced them with people who would listen to him. In my opinion he was unfit to be Georgia's Governor if he is unable to fully represent the whole population since he used the KKK to stop African Americans from voting. He cannot call himself a representative of Georgia if he thinks that African Americans, who are citizens of the United States, should not be able to go to the same school as white students. I believe he was a close-minded person since he didn't agree with FDR's New Deal, which was designed to help the country get out of the Great Depression.

Eugene Talmadge was a acute leader and held the hearts of many. He supported the rural areas who were ignored thus far and wanted more rights for them. He was a dedicated hardworking leader but his personal views also hurt him. His racist views made him into a bad person and his disagreement with FDR didn't help. He did not like the New Deal acts in fear that it was endangering segregation. He was a dedicated leader who was one of the few that took the time to help the rural portion of GA but he blew his power out of proportion. It was either his way or the highway and he made that very clear by firing those who disagreed with them or had them forcefully removed. He was a thoughtful leader but his disgusting racist views cancels that out.He also had involvement in KKK activity to also aid his views. In the end he was another white supremacist that abused his political power. Thus in my personal opinion Eugene was a horrible racist who took drastic measures to get what he wanted.

Very similar to those before him such as in the Bourbon Triumvirate, he was a white-supremacist who supported the rights of farmers and disliked FDR's "New Deal" programs very much. He was very much a typical politician in the south during the time period, as after the civil war many had shared these views especially in the former confederacy. There really isn't that much surprising about him compared to other leaders at the time such as FDR.

Eugne Talmadge was a large obstruction to the Georgian and American people. The first point is his blatant abuses of power and acting outside the law to do so. For example, he declared martial law solely to remove uncooperative board members. He also sanctioned killings of black voters in order to assure reelection. That second point also leads into another thing, how Talmadge was a horrible racist. In a time when civil rights were improving, he did nothing to help. His opposition to New Deal programs was also a large problem. He wanted to champion farmers, but opposed parts of the new deal that would help them, likely only for his contrarianism. Things like the REA and CCC would only be a good thing to him and his voter base, but he blindly opposed them. Critics at the time called him a dictator, a supremacist demagogue, and considering his actions as Governor, it's possible he wasn't the best fit for the job. Due to his contrarian attitude, racist views, and and illegal or subversiive actions, Talmadge was a terrible politican who hurt Georgia exponentially.

In my perspective, Eugene Talmadge had genuine intensions in the long run, since he desired to run an economically strong government, balance the state budget, decrease utility rates, etc. However, his political views were based off of unrealistic expectations of unemployed and disadvantaged civilians. For instance, African Americans were not paid as much as whites, did not benefit from New Deal programs ,and most were tenant farmers that could not participate in the AAA program. In addition, landowners and tenant farmers could not advance economically only through hard work; they actually need government support in order to get on their feet. Ultimately, Talmadge was a hard worker, but his political opinions are unfathomable and unjust to black Americans.

President Roosevelt put programs in place, such as the REA, to help farmers, yet Talmadge was against the New Deal. In my opinion, these two facts put together seem a little fishy. he saw the New Deal as a communist movement, and seemed to have not to have any concept of what the New Deal programs were in fact doing. His opposition of racial equality and the New Deal surprisingly had a minor effect on his time in office, as he was elected on four separate occasions. overall, Eugene Talmadge did not do much for Georgia and the country during his time in our government, and in my opinion he was not an honest and true leader to our country in its time of need.

I think that Eugene Talmadge was a stubborn racist. He abused his power to get whatever he wanted. For example, Talmadge spent department funds on a scheme to raise the price of hogs. He also spent $40,000 from department funds on the Kentucky Derby. Furthermore, he attempted to fire two University System administrators, allegedly for advocating integrated public schools. When the Board of Regents refused, he fired them all, and replaced them with people who would do whatever he told them to do.

Eugene Talmadge was against FDR in many ways, and believed he was a "communist". He was very racist, and criticized almost everything FDR did with the African Americans and was also against his New Deal Act. Talmadge also fought for farmers during his 20 year political career. I do not think he was a good person.
