Im so exiced to announce that we will have a private viewing of the movie “The Play of Everyman” (In Norwegian “Enhver har rett til” by Thomas A. Østbye) here at campus BI. I have contacted the makers of the movie and been given the permission to show the video to my class GRA6665 here at the BI campus. (Which is really cool!) 

The viewing will be Monday October 18th, at 16:00-17:00 in the big auditorium C1-060. (Movie starts 16:00 and is 30 min long. Afterwards we have a small discussion)

So, what is this movie about? In 2016 a group of Norwegian environmental and climate organizations sued the Norwegian Government, because they argued that new oil drilling allowances was against the Constitution §112:

§112 Everyone has the right to an environment that ensures health and to a natural environment where productive capacity and diversity is preserved. Natural resources should be allocated on a long-term basis with comprehensive consideration given to safeguard this right for future generations.
- The Constitution of the Kingdom of Norway 

The case went on for several years and in several court instances, all the way to the Supreme Court in December 2020. The Supreme Court ruled that the drilling licenses was not in conflict with the constitution. 

So, why do I think this case is relevant for a class in environmental economics? The arguments used by both sides in this lawsuit was based on research findings in reports by IEA, IPCC, Norwegian climate scientists and Norwegian environmental economists. The film is an interesting real-world example of how politics, law and economics play together. In our class we are focusing on the economic side of the debate, but here we see how knowledge from our field is used in a courtroom.

In the price-quantity diagram the shift in the demand and supply curves was due to "some environmental policy, maybe a tax" - so there is an external effect going on in the backround, making the curves shift. Because Im illustrating the world fossil fuel market - not a regular market within a country. And I cannot impose an international tax. When we plug in the ai^NC and ai^FC solutions to calculate the Nash eq. W_i values, it seems that when we plug in for B(A)=bA, we plug in only for the A term, and we somehow drop the b. We plug in N*(b/c) for A, but what happens to the b in B(A)?
